    Default trailer hub spraying oil

I have the oil well hubs on my trailer and noticed a spray pattern last time I trailered the boat. Does anyone know how these seal. I drained whatever oil was left in the hub and pulled it off, but I'm still not sure what makes the seal. If anyone has any experience with these let me know. Thanks.

Since you lost your seal, I would change your bearings as well. The trailer bearings are made by Timken.

Here is what is said on the Trailer Buddy manual for the Gold Series Oil Bath Hubs:

    http://www.ufpnet.com/Portals/0/trai...ygoldmaint.pdf

    REPLACING SEALS
The hub or rotor must be removed from the axle and the seal forced out. It is
impossible to remove the seal without damaging it. So, when you remove it,
plan on replacing it. Because seals are a high quality design not widely
available, you will have to obtain a replacement from the dealer, a bearing
supply company, the trailer manufacturer or Unique Functional Products. Seals
installed at the factory may have a hypalon coating on the outside diameter. If
you replace seals without hypalon apply a thin film of Permatex High-Temp
RTV Silicone Gasket Maker on the seal outside diameter and hub bore prior to
    installation.

    Seals currently in use are:
Axle Load Seal Outer & Inner Inner
    Capacity Diameter Bearing Cone
    1500#-2500# 1.98” x 1.38” L44649
    2900#-4200# 2.33” x 1.68” or L68149
    2.56” x 1.68” L68149
    5200# (6 Bolt) 3.38” x 2.13” 25580
    3.26” x 2.13”
    5200# (8 Bolt) 3.38” x 2.13” 25580

For what it costs for the bearings and seals I would just change it all. Especially if you do not know why the seal failed for sure. And if you do not know how long ago the seal had actually failed you could have water damage, among other types of damage, to your bearings.

If you have the Gold Series hubs like i have on my trailer, here is the link for the bearing and seal kit. You just need to figure out your ID of the bearings to get the correct seals for them.

Flat did you change your bearings are well? Most likely you sucked a lot of moisture into your hubs and probably have/had water damage on your bearings.

You will need to measure the ID and OD of your seals to determine which size to get. Your ID should be 1.68 and your OD will be either 2.33 or 2.56.

I would go take alook at my trailer, but I do not have it right now.
