    Default amp ground

    dose a amp need to be grounded to the battery or to the motor

    The two are connected by a 2-gauge cable so you could argue that its one in the same. And the engine block is the only appreciable ground mass on a boat unless its a cruiser with several hundred pounds of ground cable distributed throughout the boat. However, a fully charged battery may be the best noise filtration on the boat. And, the most critical point of reference for a ground must be the path of lowest resistance between ALL the audio electronics. The most convenient grounding point is going to be the battery(s).
