Steam Cleaning Vinyl

Has anyone steamed cleaned their vinyl? I have a small 'Shark' steam cleaner that I have never used and was wondering if that will help lift some of the grime.

How about the carpets?

I would think it would be pretty safe and not hurt a thing. I'd want to re-apply my UV protectant afterward but other than that I'd do it. If you do this, please post some before and after pics if you can (and a couple during the process if possible). It could be very helpful.
