Transmission Whining
My new outback has a whining sound when in idle. It sounds like that high pitch sound you get when you rub your finger around the top of a wet wine glass. It only does it in idle, not at any other rpm. Its a very faint whine, but is starting to bother me. Any ideas what it might be?

slalomski,
I have a friend with a competitors ski boat with the same problem. He changed props and that is when the whine began, dont know if this is your problem but might be worth looking into. just a thought. Hope that you are enjoying your boat otherwise!!

Thanks for the input!! I didn't think of that. It started around the 30 hour mark on the boat. It hasn't hurt the performance, it's just a little annoying. I think I'll have my dealer look at it when I take it in for the 50 hr service. My prop has a little (very little) ding in it... you can't even see it unless you really look for it and know where it is. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not being that I don't know exactly when or where it happened. Thanks...
