2000 Mobius - fuel usage

I have spent several weeks reviving my 2K mobius from my brother. Yesterday took it out for the first time to a big lake and had a full day of fun....until i ran out of gas after only 10 hours total usage (fuel guage does not work, has not for most of it's life according to my brother whom i purchased the boat from)....does this mean that my hour guage is wrong or is that all i get on 26 gallons of gas? what should i get, thought it was about 20 hours (i did have the boat at capacity (1155 lbs/8 people) too which i know will affect hours). what can i look at to improve/extend hours or is this normal? where can i buy a gas, tach/hour meter for my boat? i have a 4 prong connector on each guage to the panal.

I had a 2000 Outback. You will use up to 4 gal per hour if you run solid the whole hour. I always thought around 6 hrs. of run time was about it.

I have a 99 outback and I believe my tank holds 18 gallons. We went out for 4.5 hrs of boarding (1100 lbs ballast +3 people in boat+ rider) and we burned 14 gallons. Like the post above, I think your max time on the water running is probably somewhere in the 6 hour range.

Obviously how you use the boat has a big affect on fuel consumption. Tubing burns thru gas a lot quicker than cruising. I think most people burn around 5-6 gallons/hour. I have an Oubtack w/ a 310 carb and usually burn closer to 6 gph since I pull the kids on the tube a lot. I do like many people and check the hour meter at the beginning of the day and use it to calculate my fuel consumption. Most everyone will agree that the fuel gauges aren't useful.

For you personally, the best thing to do is fill your boat up before you start and then when you pull it out and see what your burn rate is. Do this a few times and you'll get a good feel for how long you should be able to go between fill ups.

i know i was at max weight capacity and i know if i am on-plane fuel usage is better because of less drage. But i too spent the day pulling kids on tubs and kneeboarding so i was not on-plane most of the day. I did not turn the engine off but 2 times because i have starter gong out and have not replaced it yet either. i guess i just didn't expect it to be so drastically different....i just filled it up today and put 26.833 Gal. in my 26 gal tank (it was VERY empty). i have 686.6 hours on the boat so i will see where i am with that at the next fill up... but will keep 2.5 gallon tank with me JIC until I have mapped in my mind.

Good idea! I think I might keep that tank with me all the time if I used it like you do. Please get that starter fixed. You should be shutting down when anyone is in the water near the boat.

My average consumption is about 5 gallons per engine hour so if you got 10 engine hours out of 26 gallons, you're doing great.

I have a 2003 Outback LS with the 310hp carb engine.On long cruises running about 30 mph,I get about 2.7 to 3.0 mpg,verified by a gps.Thats with 5 or 6 people aboard not towing anything.Do the math.

I'm 99% certain the fuel capacity of the '99 Outback is 27 gallons.

According to my owner's manual it is 30 gallons...
Could be wrong though
