    Default Johnson pump leaking

Does anyone know how to change this: http://skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RA057023
It appears that mine has a slow drip to it
Any special tools or tricks to getting the job done?
    Thanks

Where is the leak? There is an O ring at the rear of the pump, have you check that?

It should not be too hard to pull it off and replace. Probably need a special tool, I've never done an Indmar pump.

Yes, it appears the leak is coming from the back of it somewhere...

The pump is very easy to remove, three bolts on the harmonic balancer and one on a support arm. When I change my impeller, I pull mine every year to inspect the internals. On the back of the pump is a weep hole much like the one on your standard water pump. It is letting you know that it is getting ready to fail. Water is entering the bearings and it is slowly going to let you down. I thought that skidim offered a rebuild kit for these. I will see what I can dig up.

Found this thread on the MCraft website. It has a reply in it by Engine Nut which is actually Larry from Indmar Engines. You only need to to the seal replacement if there is no play in the shaft.

    Hope this helps: http://www.mastercraftboats.com/team...ead.php?t=8020

Jesse - Thanks for your help. After doing more research I believe it is just the seal on the backside of the pump. Skidim has it for about $20...
I'm going to replace that and see what happens.
    Thanks again

    Default Ordered New Pump

I just went ahead and ordered a new pump today from Inboard Online... $134 and I used discount code IOLROCKS to get 10% off.
SkiDim had it listed for $163...
I figured it was going to be too much of a pain in the ass to just change the seal out so I just ordered a brand new one.
Surprisingly it came off no problem. Had to put some torque on the allen bolts where it is mounted to the harmonic balancer, but I got them out.
I read where a lot of people were having problems trying to remove the "plate" part from the harmonic balancer.
After I took the 3 allen bolts out the pump pretty much fell off so I was happy I didn't have any problems there!!!!

Well when I took my pump off the other day and took the impeller out I noticed there was no brass washer on the shaft at all.
I went and found the box for the impeller as I put the old one in there.
There was a plastic bag that came with the new impeller and sure enough it came with 2 extra brass screws, brass washer and a replacement seal.
I didn't even think of checking before I ordered the new pump.
I put the brass washer on the shaft and put the impeller back in then mounted the pump back up.
Hooked the garden hose up and ran the boat for about 5 minutes and no drips at all !!!!!
I'm not sure how long it's been dripping as I never paid attention to it. I don't know why there wasn't a brass washer on the shaft in the first place.
I've never checked it when the boat was winterized/de-winterized and I pulled the impeller out.
So now I'm going to send the new pump back and save myself $134 !!!

Yesterday i was on the water like every day... but i noticed what i concider a pretty big leak from the "shaft side" of the water pump... engine still run at normal temp so i guess its not alarming. It looks like a back seal problem to me...

I'm having hard time finding out what to order and what not... I need help on that one cause I don't want to order the wrong seal or pump...

Where on the internet i'll be able to find the right pump for my engine serial number ?

(At leats the boat still usable... with a working bilge pump...)

    thanks

You are talking about the raw water pump that houses the impeller and not the circular pump that is above it correct?
What motor is in your boat?
I found it was going to be really time consuming and a pain in the ass to rebuild the pump because you have to remove the shaft so I just ordered a brand new one to be on the safe side.

If you have the Johnson pump this is the seal you need:
