Kind of a side point, but I thought that most modern boats couldn't actually sink even if they are swamped (they will get down to the water line, but not actually sink to the bottom).
From the picture in the linked thread, it looks like that's what happened to the X-80, unless they just sank near the edge where it isn't deep.
