    Default fuel pump problems

    on my second fuel pump on a 05 outback. Engine won't start unless I hit the fuel pump with a wrench & take the bleeder screw off the front of the carb. Need help.

    Need a little more info.... Your engine won't start at all unless you hit the pump? As in "bleeder" screw do you mean the sight plug on the side of the primary fuel bowl?
    I would double check that your getting power to the fuel pump.
    I would also disconnect the fuel line where it screws into the dual fuel line at the carb.
    Stick that end of the fuel line into a bottle or something and then crank it over and see if you get fuel coming out at all....

    Believe it or not is was the power valve in the carb!
    $15 part $250 in labor

    $250 in labor?????? WOW !!!! I think you got ripped off. That parts takes maybe 15-20 at the most to change out.
    Drain the fuel out of primary bowl, disconnect fuel line, remove fuel bowl and metering block and change out the power valve and reassemble...
