Does any one know how to check the steering fluid?

There isn't any! I don't know what kind of boat that you have but with my 02 Mobius d-drive, there is just the steering cable. It attaches to the tiller arm of the rudder under the gas tank and is hard to get to. I am about to replace the cable on mine as it is really stiff and hard to turn. Make sure you get all the water out of the hull after every use since the service guy told me that it will migrate inside the "water resistant" cable and corrode it.
