Quick Release

Does anyone know where you can get a pressure sensitive quick release for your ski rope? Last season I saw someone who had a velcro attachment that held the rope up to the tower. If too much pressure was applied the velcro would come apart leaving the skiier safe incase they became entangled. I have been Sky Skiing for awhile and although I have been really lucky, it seems to be pretty easy to get tangled up when doing spins/flips. Thanks for any help!

Yeah buddy, a man after my own heart. That velcro device is made by Lonnie at cinchmax. Check out www.cinchmax.com I believe it's the first picture. He has since then came up with a new device that you can pull a manual release if you see the person hung up in the rope. Also, if you don't have his footwraps and footstraps, they are must when doing flips and spins but you probably have those already

There is also a new device sold by samsonsports found here http://samsonsports.com/bullet_release.html I have heard alot of good things about it as well.

And last but not least, the ever expensive but fantastic Comptech Release made by the fine folks at Comptech/Skyski.

Here is a link to a quick release. These release are used by waterski show teams. They are heavy duty and reliable. Unlike the velcro, your spotter is responsible for releasing the rope from the boat.

Pro is it won't release to soon, won't wear out or not release when you need it to. These are not as expensive the mose expensive previously mentioned option but don't require shear pins to be replaced as needed, an inconvinence.

A downfall is that your spotter has to be paying attention. I have used these release before and highly recommend them. I have purchased through this company also and recommend them.

I got the velcro version. It quickly fell into disuse. It was hard to tune it to be the right amount to be useful, yet not release prematurely. In the many experiments to get it set up, every premature release also came with a slap in the face for anyone sitting in the stadium seat. I would recommend one of the more advanced and expensive models instead.

One other item that CinchMax has that I do strongly recommend is the Neck Roll. See it on http://cinchmax.com/_wsn/page3.html . It's too bad that it doesn't come in smaller sizes.
