Washing Cover?

Has anyone washed their boat cover? I have an OEM grey one for my 2004. The cover mainly just covers the boat while its in the garage. The cover is in good shape just getting full of dust after the years. Can you put it in a regular washing machine with regular detergent? I have a fairly large front load washer, or could hit the laundry mat to use their larger washing machines.

The care label on my cover says not to use detergent.

I usually put the cover on the boat and wash it with car soap and rinse. Let it air dry on the boat.

I either lay it on the drive way or leave on the boat and spray with my pressure washer on a lower setting. Personally my problem is the under side getting kind of moldy from covering up the boat wet on the lift.
