Spot on Joe. And since free air subs are not designed to work in a specific controlled volume, the design of them limits the excursion of the woofer, which limits sound. So it would take lots more...

Are you using a free air subwoofer? In order to mount the sub the way a regular speaker is mounted requires a special sub. Free air subs aren't very loud either. I have a 10" sub in a sealed box...
