I change mine every other year. There has been summers I put over 100 hrs on the boat and never had a problem.

You can buy a spider net. It hangs from the rafters or your pearlings over your boat. Then use bug spray on the rest of dock. I got mine from a guy I bought my lift from. He said it cost about $150....
