Can you or should I say....Should you tow with the poles in place?
I tow with the snap covers and the poles in place I dont think you want it to flap as much as possible so you need to use the poles to keep it tighter
I actually believe you run less risk of tearing if you keep the posts in place. Keeps the cover nice and tight.
