Bringing this thread back because I am probably going to do this install this weekend on the new (2011) boat. Does anyone have a how to on how to install this in the front and at the transom? I'm REALLY nervous about drilling holes. These will NOT be flush mounted at this time. I can run the wires fine...it's the drilling I am concerned about.
Also, does anyone know how to remove the MB Quart remote? I was feeling around behind it last night and couldn't really tell.
Thanks!

E,
I'm not sure what remote that is used with MB, but I have a couple of shots of the 107mr being installed were the factory aware remote was installed at the helm. You can see them in my stereo install album if interested.

This link should also help you with the transom remote install. Should be the same steps required if you are not flush mounting. If you are going to flush mount you will need to cut a massive hole in the transom, which a few on here have down.

E,
One other thing, I believe I read in another post that you have the kmr550u and that stereo may not support the 107mr remotes. I know the kmr440u will support only 107mr, but it does not have the ability to assign more then 1 ip address to support multiple 107mr. And at a quick glance the kmr550u does't support the 107mr at all. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The 440u is discontinued and the 550u is the replacement. According to crutchfield and the manual it should support the remotes. I researched it quite a bit cause they are pricey and I had to make sure it would work. Hopefully my research wasn't wrong if so I'll have a radio for sale.
*edit* Page 72 of the manual suggests that it will work and allows up to 2 remote IDs. The 440U would work with 2. I can't imagine that it's replacement wouldn't...

FYI -Today, we installed the Kenwood 550U head unit and replaced the MB Quart remote with a KCA-RC107MR and then added a second one at the transom. So I have confirmed that the 550U will work with 2 107 remotes. Also if anyone want to upgrade from the MB Quart radio, it's not easy. Had to cut out an opening for the new DIN size Kenwood. The MB Quart is mounted like a remote and the 'brain' unit is actually mounted in the observer's compartment. Fun times I tell ya...fun times! But happy with how it turned out and the system is one more step closer to sounding as it should.

Great to know about 2 107 remotes working with the 550u, I might have to upgrade from the 440u. Did you take any pics would like to see the final install.

I got a few I will post them a little later. We are thinking about flush mounting the rear remote. I'm a little hesitant because it's a big hole and what if the remote quits working and they discontinue that remote or something?
Haven't even had the boat a week yet and I've already had her under the knife!
Today I may do the dual battery install. Already have the Perko switch installed so it shouldn't be that difficult...not compared to yesterday anyway.

5 Attachment(s)
Did not do the dual battery setup today. Maybe next weekend. But here are some pics of the stereo and remote install:
Before: Attachment 13962
After: Attachment 13966
Finished: Attachment 13963
*It's not PERFECT but it's good enough for me. (Not bad at my first attempt EVER cutting Fiberglass)
Driver's Remote: Attachment 13964
Transom Remote: Attachment 13965
I may go ahead and flush mount the transom remote. I kinda wish it was a little further to the right but it is where it is now...
