Lake Amistad at Historical Low (pics)
Check out these 3 images of Lake Amistad along the Rio Grande River out in Val Verde County. After Hurricane Alex flooded the Rio Grande in 2010 the Lake rose to around 1130 ft in July of 2010. Almost 3 years later, the lake has dropped nearly 75 ft to its current record low pool of 1056 ft.
"We are deeply concerned about Amistad’s record low levels, but we are even more concerned about the severe impacts that Mexico’s refusal to meet its obligations under the 1944 Water Treaty is having, not only on Amistad, but on the entire middle and lower Rio Grande Valley,” said Carlos Rubinstein, commissioner for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The dam gates are still open on the Mexican side letting out 18 inches of water a day.... I hope they stop soon or we won't have any boat ramps open. As of today, only TWO of the EIGHT boat ramps are still operational. Sad stuff down here....

I'm afraid I may be in the same boat before to long. almost 10 ft low now which don't sound bad compared but when the docks are out of the water and the trees are beginning to show it can make for a bad season. it's usually August/September before lake belton looks like this

Yea it's a little scary now if you get off the main channel. There are little rock islands all over the place. My dad was here fishing a couple weeks ago and he was about 100 yards from the bank and had just come back down to an idle with the motor still in gear when all of a sudden... KRAKKKK!!! He turned the engine off looked down, saw rocks, lifted the motor up and sure enough it knocked about an inch and a half off the bottom fin of the lower unit!!!

I feel for you guys. Up here our season is shorter but we don't tend to have the swings like that.
