With the Wisconsin deer gun season just around the corner I figured that I could contribute a little this year. Here is my background.
I have been hunting since I was a kid and I've been a part of our hunting group since 1997 the first year that I could legally hunt. I have been hunting ever year with a diverse group of guys. There was a point at camp where I was the youngest at 14 and the oldest member of the group was 92. "The Dutch Hunting Camp" started in 1926 with my Great Great Grandpa and other friends and family. We still continued to hunt in the same small town in northern Wisconsin. It has been an amazing tradition of comradery that will be passed down to many future generations. This year my Grandpa turns 86 and still continues to hunt with us, it is truly a memory that I will always have.
Now for the hunting, it has been really slow the last couple years. The DNR is doing a poor job of managing the herds and there has been a declining deer population the last decade. We have seen a very slight increase the last couple years due to the camps acquisition of more land and better land management, food plots, select cutting, and other tools. Either way I am pumped for the 9 day gun hunt! Be safe out there if you are hitting the woods.
