I'm assuming you meant "builders," not boulders?
I love the Knight's stuff, but history says you have to wait forever to get your stuff unless your a gov't contractor

I also like the Daniel's Defense & Noveske products.

Nothing but Magpul PMAGS will do

Gotta use an eotech so I can hit what I'm aiming athttp://www.eotech-inc.com/products/sights/556
And to keep it all nice & quiet, gotta go with the best in the biz, AAC

Breakout the checkbook and have some fun!
Yeah. Builders not boulders. Dang u autocorrect!
Yeah, aac an Ny don't jive.
Let's see some pics of zombie killers.
Aw, c'mon. Be creative. There has to be some reason that Crosman would need to have a Class 3 license?
Mine is at the other house right now. I'll post up some after Turkey Day.
"Somebody" I know has had one since 1986, before the ATF laws came into effect. It definately does not have ten 30-round Milspec magazines, and also i've never seen the gen1 Aimpoint Laser Sight that some claim is there. ;)

NY holds to the 94 ban rules so among many things, a "can" is strictly prohibited. I. My home state of MS, it ain't no big deal.
I have to pin the stock to be fixed, take the flash suppressor off and put a muzzle brake on...and have it permanently affixed... And limited to 10 round clips!
Pistols are a pain here too! In the middle of my pistol permit/conceal carry.
Razz your friends ar sounds cool.
More reasons for me to not move to NY
You guys need to move to Texas when it comes to guns. I have a few M4's and AK's with 100rd magazines.
No doubt ydm. Refill the lakes and Texas is a super state! Great weather, deer and turkey hunting, lakes! Little to no snow! Great gun laws.
Speaking of, did you hear about the ccw reciprocity bill that was voted on by the house?
Here's hoping it passes
Thinking of building one with no experience. Really don't even know where to start. I have a huge love and respect for guns but ARs are uncharted territory for me. An SKS is the closest thing that I own. I would love to pic your brains.
Brad,
Nice project, I did a similar build a few years back when I got a deal on a matched Wilson Combat upper and lower. I'm a weapons guy by trade, 18 series in the Army. I've found if you're looking to do a budget build, its tough to beat some of the prices out there for complete AR's. There's a lot of competition between the lower end AR companies. Cost savings doing it yourself can be eaten up by the shipping costs of using multiple different companies for components.
Wolfeman has some good info in his post, many reputable companies. I use Daniel Defense kit on my personal guns, as well as work guns. Their rails are rock solid. Check out LaRue Tactical as well, they make some quality kit, and have top notch service. Magpul makes my favorite stock, the ACS. But, considering NY ban rules, you may want to try a stock that offers minor eye relief adjustments, so you still have flexibility after the stock is pinned to buffer tube.
As far as optics go, EOTech sites are an excellent choice, but also pricey. I've also found in close quarters tactical situations that the bulky hood on the EOTech can obscure peripheral vision when engaging targets , so I've run a C-More 8-MOA sight the last couple of years on my work gun. It's light, very low profile, batteries last forever, and it's almost half the price of EOTech's. But, if you're looking for a range gun that'll shoot out past 300 meters, you'll want go with something with a smaller MOA reticle, C-More has additional red dot modules in smaller MOA available.
Agree with Magpul P-Mags being the shiznit. Going on 3 years with my original set, bought before the site window was available. Don't be cheap, spend the extra $4 for the windows! I put somewhere around 15,000 rounds through my rifle yearly, and have yet to have any sort of feed issue. I replaced maritime H&K mags, which run about $80 each with the P-Mags, and wouldn't go back.
If you run into any issues on your build hit me up with questions!
Newty, DO IT. its fun! Go ahead and order a lower if you think you might want to do it.
KEEHR, Great info. I know i wont save any $ building, but i have a "Govt' Agent" friend who is helping me build. he went thru colt armorers school. i am an instant grat. kinda person so waiting for parts to come in and waiting til i go home to miss next week is no fun! Also, i wanted to customize a few things so instead of buying complete and lots of replacement parts, it'll work out fine.
My company sells some optics so I'll be using several options from work for now.. we sell some basic lasers, etc. as well... so i can "play at work"... also, we are finalizing an airgun UPPER that pins right into a standard lower... so that was part of my excuse..
PMags sound good, but i dont see an that are 10 round NY AWB compliant! UGH. i have some Tango Down 10 rounds ordered. at least they LOOK bigger than 10 round plastic crap.
its been fun so far just shopping for parts and planning this out..
good thing is the muzzle brake will be the only "perm" adjustment to the gun. I can unpin the stock later, add bigger clips, etc. if I move out of NYState.
Here's day 1
Waiting on a couple of parts to arrive Monday or Tuesday

Fun. Kinda felt a little buzz while building. Was thinking about the next build??? Why? Oh, I was enjoying some suds during the build!
Found a couple of places online in CA that take 20 round PMags that are converted to 10. Bingo!
This AR building is addictive. Gimme something to do while the ice is around the lakes!
Getting somewhere. Grip and stock arrived today.
whaddya got for the background in that pic? almost makes it look like a toy.
Rug plus a little creative iphoneography.
This better?

Now we're talking!
Here is finished product.
Finished up last night. Test fire went well. Already ordered everything to build #2. It will be a 20" bushmaster predator more setup for hunting.
Yeah, I'm addicted now. Gonna v
Build one for bro in law at Christmas too.
Oops. Forgot something. http://img.tapatalk.com/4100b648-60ed-eb8e.jpg
Brad, looks great.
Wheres the orange tip? Lol. Nice. My nephew was showing me some of his kit guns. Pretty cool. Most are real . Some have the lil red tip. His dad caught up with his parts for an ar15 and put the kabosh to that. He is now trying to fab the parts himself
No orange tips on this one! Ny has enough restrictions on it! I have it ready to bring back to ny. just have to drop off at gunsmith t pin the muzzle brake and I'm fully legal.
#2 build starts next week.
What's the cost on going this route vs going down to Cabelas and picking one up?

You can buy a complete one a little cheaper than I have in that. i have about $750 in that so far (excluding optic/laser, that i had at work)
But I was able to customize some for that price..
If you are interested in a one, let me know and I can guide you on some good deals out there...
Also, you get some sense of accomplishment knowing you built the lower from scratch and put it all together.. A few youtube videos and it was all good.
PARTS LIST:
Rock River Stripped Lower
Doublestar lower parts kit
UAG Adj. STock
UTG PIstol Grip
UTG Green Foregrip
Magpul MOE oversize trigger guard
DPMS Flat Top Oracle Upper
Yankee Hill Muzzle Brake (NY allows muzzle brake, but not flash suppressors... go figure)
Magpul PMAG magazine.. its a 30 round that has been pinned to 10 round for NY AWB rules..
I am starting another next weekend. next one will be more of a predator hunting setup.. this one is a zombie hunter setup..
Y'all have alot of silly rules in new York
NO KIDDING RD
We are a rural state run by the concrete capital in Albany and NYC.. we should separate into Albany/NYC as one state and the rest as WNY.
Pistols are a pain too.. i should have my permit soon though..
Can we revive this thread... It only seems necessary considering the current "Panic" of guns and ammo flying off the shelf!!!
On a side note, I am looking for a couple Glock 22 .40cal mags if anybody has any they don't need...
Bring it on tgoody
Since my last post in here I have completed a total of 5
First picture Above
A 20" bull barrel tack driver
2 300 AAC blk
An all magpul .223 with a2 sight
Panic bought another stripped lower and upper that should arrive any day now ! But I ordered a multi cal suppressor yesterday so I may need to cut herd by one to pay for that!

Only the 20" not shown
I call dibs if you decide to let one go!
What suppressor are you going with?

Liberty Mystic. It'll fit my .22 pistol 9mm
.223 and my .300 blk. Won't be as quiet on .22 but beats buying multiples and having to do multiple tax stamps
The mystic has multiple thread adapters to fit different guns.
I'm probably 6-9 months out before I can get it now.
Green one in pic is up for offers.
Rock river lower with dpms upper
How much????

Beautiful Guns! If I had the cash, I'd love to take it off your hands.
I've never built one, but always wanted to and I think it will be awhile now before prices come back down. I was looking online last night and people are selling their spare uppers and lowers for $800-$1k a piece, that's crazy!! Even crazier is that people are actually buying them!!! 🙀
I've been buying/trading guns with friends and co-workers for a long time now. Started out with an Olympic Arms as my first AR, which took a beating and still never had one problem. Then I picked up a Bushmaster Carbon 15 and absolutely loved it because it was only 4lbs, but I kept having FTF problems if I wasn't shooting the exact round/grain that it wanted. I recently picked up a Colt Law Enforcement 6920 M4, figured I might as well go all out and get the top of the line, IMHO (we carry them in the Patrol), before something drastic happens and new laws get put in place.
Ohhhh and I picked up an AR-40cal from Just Right Carbine! This thing is AWESOME!!! Haha

I'm looking for a Blackout upper, blackout complete, and/or blackout pistol
I'm thinking about firing up the Dillon press but it has been years. Does anyone have a favorite load/powder for 9mm, .45 and/or .40?
I'd like to standardize the powder.
What is the deal on primers and powder these days. None are in the Dillon catalog. A good source?
I've got 10 years of brass piled up.

We used to reload back in the day as well, but it hit a point where it was cheaper to just buy rounds off the shelves than reloading! Looks like many people will be going back to reloading if this price gouging keeps up 😡
Anybody have 30rd Pmags they wouldn't mind selling without giving up an arm and/or leg??
I'm having a hard time finding any...
Have you tried www.texasguntrader.com? I have been seeing a whole bunch on there that people haven't really sky rocketed the prices on.
