"Early Reserve" price of only $499.....cool concept, but I can replace my rope 6 times for that coin.
For 500 bucks, we can pull our own rope in

It's spendy and honestly ugly and looks like a down rigger.

Might be nice for when its just the wife and I but for 500 dollars I am out.
It’s cool but not 499 cool tho.
Rope duty comes with being asked to go.
No way I would buy.....
Nice idea I guess. We surf regular and still pick up on the starboard side so there's no chance the driver would lose site of the rider. Doesn't look like you could do that with this.
Dont think it would matter which side rope goes to right? Unless it cant reach across boat when surfing.
Looking at the videos, it mounts to either side and works goofy or regular and you don't need to move it side to side.

We occasionally run a 2nd rope much like this so the spotter doesn't have to stand up to pull in the rope.

I’ll pass. Seems like a waste of money to me. Never once has the thought crossed my mind that I need an automatic rope dispenser lol. That’s what kids or friends are for :D
Once your rider gets comfy, they just toss it back into the boat. I actually prefer rider just tossing the rope to the other side of the wave.
Unless they are doing transfers, it's just easier leaving the rope out so that you can circle around so rider can grab the rope.

I think they should have a mini rope cannon option to launch the rope out to the rider![emoji12]

Interesting concept. I'm always impressed by peoples ability to come up with an idea and then bring it to life. As for me, I'll hold on to my $. I'd rather put it toward a new board.
Hard pass, and the dude gets sensitive if you say it's not worth the money on social media. His reply was, well, surfing is expensive so we're making this expensive. No thanks with that company.
I give him creative credit, and can say it's a neat idea, but no way worth that price.

Didn't look like it would reach across the boat if mounted on the starboard side is what I was meaning for a regular rider, unless the string is long enough in their coil. I personally wouldn't mount it on the port side and try picking up a rider that you can't see.
I also noticed the owners comments were sensitive, most say it's overpriced at $500 and full retail will be $900.
His comments were basically, "How much do you think it should sell for?"
Personally I don't want that thing hanging off the side of my boat, not sure I would buy it at any price.
I will applaud the idea and effort, just not my thing.

I agree this has engineering promise and I like the innovative concept of this product. What I cannot get over is the cost, mounting, and packaging.
I can buy side tow point for my tower for $100, a retractable dog leash for $50, and a good surf rope for $75 and have the same concept.
Not trying to beat someone up, or downplay their idea. I bet he has takers it just won't be at $500, let alone $900.
"Retractable dog leash"! LOL. I love it. I was thinking one of those retractable clothes lines, but the leash is better!

I need less crap on my boat, not more.
Looks dorky.

Only one situation where it would be useful:
90yo Gramps, who just had his third knee replacement, is driving and having a hard time getting back on the steering wheel after tossing you the rope on a pickup.
....not that any of us here surf without a spotter...<cough>
/s
Ah..in that case ,just let it drag.
