Warranty claim denied

Has anyone here had issues with Skiers Choice denying their warranty claims? I just got word from my dealer that my claims were denied and that they gave some unsubstantiated reasons for them. It's disappointing that a company won't stand by their product when a customer needs them to. As you all know, we're not talking about small ticket items here. I made a big financial decision last year to purchase my new boat and this has left a very sour taste in my mouth with Moomba / Skiers Choice. I feel like this is one of those dreaded "you get what you pay for" moments.

I had an issue with a boat I bought new in 16. I was never happy with the surf wave, and got blown off by Supra. They basically said I bought the wrong boat, and to sell it and buy another. They had no interest in doing anything for me, except telling me to sell my boat and buy a different model from them.
Left a very bad taste in my mouth as well. They could've cared less if I was happy.

Post up what the issue is and put the collective minds to work. The dealer isn't necessarily the be all end all.

No, never had one denied by Skiers. Post up the issue and maybe we can help you get it resolved. If it’s a legitimate claim I guarantee they will handle it. Sometimes the dealers can get in the way and you need to go direct to Skiers.

I submitted claims for cracks in the gel coat. I have a long crack under the starboard side rear tower post. There are also cracks on the starboard side front cleat from normal docking. My bimini top collapsed and bent from a wind gust while under way on the river. Lastly, my right rear surf tab had a plastic clip snap and is now just dangling. I was told SC decided that someone stepped on it and broke it. The bimini issue was determined to be from impact. I keep my boat at a marina 5 minutes from my Moomba dealer and they would pick up and drop it off for me for service which is the only time the boat is towed. Hopefully I can get this issue resolved in my favor. Thanks for your replies

I don't have the boat. it's at the dealer. They took the pics and submitted the claim.

Not only has SC always taken care of my warranty claims, they even offered to cover a couple items out of warranty.

Gell cracks can be tricky because a loose cleat or having tied up with not enough slack to move, or too much slack can cause issues.

I can’t speak on your Bimini because I have been out on the lake with 30+ head wind and cruising at 25 with no issues

My Bimini is not your Bimini

The rear plate I can see why they deny it but the dealer has input and influence. Maybe your dealer isn’t helping?

I don’t understand how a Surfwave that is not to your liking is a warranty claim? Did you demo the boat before you bought it? Is your surfing system not working properly? This one has me scratching my head a little bit. 2016 supras surf like banshees.

To the original post, I can see how these are tricky on all accounts. A strong gust of wind breaking my Bimini I would not expect to be a warranty issue if the Bimini was working properly before that. Now if a weld broke or something like that then that’s different. Gelcoat cracks are very subjective, but the one underneath your tower sounds like it might be something you could fight for. At least at one. Maybe our others too. The small plastic clip I am not familiar with,But how much is the part? It must be expensive enough that you are willing to fight for it. It’s a tough situation, is that stuff all happen to me within a couple weeks I would be probably after them, but if it happened a year or more later, I would be less inclined to because I am using the boat. Hopefully you can find some resolution.

Hopefully most of that is understandable and I am using voice text.

tend to agree with Dakota.
dealer fixed some of my gelcoat cracks but some were determined to be due to my use. I agreed with it.
I would not expect them to fix a bimini if it was due to wind or some other issue. warranties are typically for defective parts, not parts that break through the normal course of use- as painful as that replacement part can be :(
as to the 3rd piece, that seems a bit wrong that they would not warranty a part like that unless it is determined that it was used as a step at some point. kinda tough to tell on that one and would think the dealer would step up and fight for that one.

maybe Rick will chime in and help the dealer out.

I had similar issues with cracks all around my window (both sides). It was brand new 2013 delivered this way so dealer said they'd fix them. Needless to say, the work was said to be done through the winter, but cracks were still there (some fixed most still there), next season they said they'd fix again, and low a behold, not all fixed and cracks still there. At that point they said it was beyond warranty and they couldn't get it covered any further, even though it was never fixed originally. I was told over 40 hours of work was done to fix it... Not likely... I've been complaining since then and nothing done by dealer to fix. They said it was Skiers Choice who would not cover the work, even though it was never fixed.

Work was always done at the end of season when I had boat there for the winter. Some were fixed, I'm not saying they did nothing, it's just the entire area around windshield has cracks and it was never fully fixed.

Needless to say, I have lots of gelcoat cracks that have never been properly fixed, and will likely devalue boat when I go to sell. Not sure if these cracks are common in Moomba? Not impressed...

Good luck with yours... Mine have gotten worse.. But hey, I guess you get what you pay for... :(

Im hoping since there was just the one from being there since new and no more showed up after 100 hours this summer that it will be the only one. And you sure do always seem to get what you pay for , so far I'm happy with what we got , there always seems to be some sort of trade off , one way or another

Very true , out of three different brands of brand new boats , only 1 never had any sort of gealcoat crack, first boat had several , but they were your average 1/4 " long hair crack , not this , and it goes almost that far under the windshield too. It's pretty deep to , could get my thumb nail down in it a good ways. We did have a spider web crack on tach gauge , on the inside face not the glass , that got warranty fixed without issues , took about 2 weeks for the approval , but no problems there.

I find it odd the Bimini and the tower are having issues as the post stated the Bimini was from impact. Could the dealer, marina, or owner hit a tree branch when towing? I have a scratch on my tower from a tree branch. The roads in TN make it hard for 2 boats to pass sometimes. I have a neighbor that went into his slip a little hot with his Malibu and too out a board rack and caused hell damage at the tower mount. Wish I had his money, next week ordered a larger dock.

The issue I'm having is with Skiers Choice determining the cause based on photos from the dealer and denying the coverage. There was no effort on the part of SC to reach out. Maybe they just deny it and hope the problem goes away. At this point, I would not recommend a Moomba or Supra boat to any of my friends based on this. I feel bad for the dealers that sell these boats and aren't able to hold up their end of the deal with new customers. I get a lot of compliments on my boat on the water and almost always get asked where I bought it from. I never imagined that Moomba/SC would dismiss a customer so nonchalantly and leave their local dealer hanging out to dry. I still plan on writing a letter directly to SC with the hopes that they will take interest in rectifying this issue.

this all happened within a few weeks of each other with the plastic piece on the surf tab being discovered the last day I used it. I know for a fact no one stepped on it because no one got in the water that day. We stayed in the boat and just went for a cruise with the family. That's what is bothering me about this. SC told the dealer that it was used as a step...at the end of the season. My kids are old enough to understand the first time I told them about the tabs for them not to do it a few months into owning the boat. thanks for your reply bud. I'm just super frustrated with this whole deal.

nope. stress cracks are a touchy one, but the bimini is baffling to me. don't know a warranty out there that covers wind damage to a bimini.

the part that is circled is plastic and is what attaches the top of the actuator to the boat. this isn't my boat just a google picture to show what I'm talking about

If the actuator broke—I would get a new one on warranty. If a little sleeve broke I may just buy a new one?

Skier's Choice customer service has been on the ball with this. There might have been some confusion initially but they have agreed to cover the actuator. I wish it was an easy fix but the whole actuator needs to be replaced since it is all one part.

Good news.

I just wanted to update everyone on what's going on. Skiers Choice has agreed to cover the bimini top and actuator after some debate. They want the parts back for R&D purposes so they didn't actually validate my claim. They have denied the coverage on the gel coat cracks and are not willing to acknowledge the defects. Although reason states I should be happy to get the two items covered, I'm extremely disappointed in the outcome and the way this has been handled. I'm looking forward to speaking with reps from Skiers Choice at the Chicago Boat Show. I might be in the market for a new boat after this non sense.

What was the outcome of your claim Steve? It sounds like the same location as mine. starboard side under the window / tower area.

I just got the boat back the Friday before Christmas , the dealer did an amazing fix , and as far as I know it was covered under warranty. Didn't pay for anything.
