oil change
i recently bought a 2003 outback ls. it has the 310 hp motor.I will be changing the oil shortly.Indmar recommends 15w40 penzoil marine oil. The nearest place i can buy this oil is about an hour drive. the local auto parts store carries penzoil 15w40 heavy duty oil.would this be a good replacement or should i use something else.

Do a quick search on the internet for the oil you are looking for.

I was looking for the same oil this weekend, a boat store here that didnt have it said there is some sort of additive in it (smi-7 or some thing like that) so they didnt recommend regular motor oil.

Oil change
Being a new boat, and to stay under Indmars 3 year warr., I would suggest staying with the recommended oil. This oil may not be carried regularly in most areas(check Wal-Mart), you can order it directly through Indmar(www.indmar.com). Brian Raymond

oil change/warranty
Brian,
Do you know if Indmar requires Pennzoil filters to be used as well? I've switched to Purolater 1 oil filters after reading some comparison test articles, but I wouldn't want to void my warranty.
Thanks,
Brian

Filter of oil
Filter brand won't be an issue, if you are happy with the one you are useing, stick with it. The main issue is recommended oil at the proper hours put on the boat. Brian Raymond

by the way i e-mailed idmar and they told me the 15w40 heavy duty oil was fine and it would not void my warranty. j y

Did Indmar tell you why its ok not to use Marine?

Pennzoil 15W40 Marine
Finally Got Some!
I ordered it through my local GM dealer at 23.50/case. Not too bad 1.96/qt...
Label says that it "Exceeds OEM Requirements" (probably easy to say) and that it has "PureBase" (not sure what this is). It says that it has "high viscosity and film strength for protection in high speed/high load applications".
I stocked up for 12 changes

I'm thinking of doing my own oil change next time on my 2002 Outback 310 hp carbureted engine. The Indmar manual says to remove the plug and run the "Quickdrain" through the hole and then remove the cap and drain the oil into a container. What is the Quickdrain? Is it just a hose that is already connected to the underside of the engine and capped at the other end? Is it standard with the Outback or is it an option?
-
yup, hose w/ a brass plug, jsut raise the engine cover and look in there you'll see it.

Good god, Noneya.....can't you change that avatar? Everytime I see it, it freaks me out! :p
-
Noneya,...i enjoy reading your post but must agree with Waterboy,...something just a bit freaky there!
-
Aww come on..its a cinematic classic...If anyone can name the film I'll change it for ya.

A Clockwork Orange! (I'm old...)
-
Damn I hope you are right Waterboy. But you have to wonder,...what will it be changed to. ha!

D'oh...well how bout this?? I was looking for the simpsons where Santa's little helper (the dog) was strapped in like Alex but couldnt find it ...maybe later!

How about the one of Mr. Burns strapped into the stretcher thing like Hannibal Lector?
