I thought I would post some pictures of my Seadek pad (Storm grey over black). I am also adding pieces of Hydroturf to areas of the boat. I started with the inside of the glovebox.

Is that Hydroturf "molded" diamond or "cut" diamond?

Cut. I've used it all over my boat. I love it. I'm half tempted to do my entire floor in the stuff. Great stuff.
Actually newty its Molded Diamond. I got samples of both, cut and molded diamond, and they are pretty close, the groves in the molded are smooth and more defined. Really like that they send out samples of their product. Much easier to decide color and texture with a sample in hand.
I got the turf with the pre-applied glue as well, so just cut to shape and size with scissors, then peal and stick. I did take some medium-course sand paper to the edges to get rid of the scissor marks. Not sure if I will put any on the top deck, but I am planning on doing the floor of the front where it is not carpeted. Then I will see how much I have left.
Just off hand..........how does it compare in price to a sheet of seadek? I'm wanting to do the floor in the bow, transom, and then along the tops of the gunwale for stepping in and out of the boat.
I see three scenarios here:
1-You have a really nice wood floor in your garage.
2-You don't have anyone to explain your actions to (swim deck in the dining room?)
3-Your significant other is very understanding/ supportive.
Either way, nice choice on the seadek and I like the hydroturf. I am thinking of all the ways I could use that stuff on the boat.
Viking, Hydroturf is cheaper than Seadek. The molded diamond pattern is the second most expensive stuff Hydroturf sell next to their two-tone stuff. A similar size sheet of Seadek would be about $50 more than what I ordered. If you choose Hydroturf, I would recomend that you just request a color sample before you order anything (its free), that way you know what color/texture you want and its simple, can be done right on their web site. I requested a couple, and they sent all the ones I requested.
Moombahighrider, no wood floor in the garage, I do have to explain what I do to the significant other sometimes, but she understands;)
I'll add more pictures later as my work progresses. Now onto doing the bow floor.

I showed my wife the "tower in the living room" pic. She is definately one of the understanding ones, but she said that would be "pushing it"! I will keep that in the back of my mind for my own well being. What's a guy to do without a garage though?

Without a garage? I don't know. You can't put a tower on in most garages. The tower came nice and clean in a couple of boxes so I wanted to put most of it together and get familiar with all the parts before I pulled the boat out of the garage in Feb. to put it on. The downfall of doing a piece this large is getting the lines straight. Now, what to do with the rest of sheet of material?
That looks great! I wish my whole floor was that material...
I like it! I've been using some tool drawer liner and did the same thing but it keeps moving around. Need to get some stuff with adhesive (seadek and/or hydroturf) to replace it so it's somewhat permanent. Looks good.
PS.....leaning towards the hydroturf due to you and Newty's comments. Got some samples coming :)
How do you like having that part of the floor done? I am thinking about doing mine with the same faux teak that I have on the swim platform. I just don't like the fact that there is no traction on that stock floor, everything slides on it.Quote:

Its hard for me to give you an accurate opinion. Reason being, that while doing this project, I have already put my boat away for the season. It is parked in the garage, unable to be pulled out so no daylight. I just need to see it in the sun, but that wont be until spring.Quote:

I wish I would have made a full size template instead of just measurments. I did my glovebox with a template and I thought the edges turned out better. My lines on the floor piece are just a little off, you cant see it in the picture, but a template would have helped.
How does this hold up with the mold and mildew? Like right now my boat seems to get little mold spots in the carpet. So I have to clean these spots each time I take the cover off.
My carpet is only 1 year old, but already I want to replace it. (Gel-coat deck (versus carpet) should be an option on the outback.) In any event, I expect to replace all the carpeting in the next few seasons with something like Seadeck or Hydroturf. I would keep it light colored for confort in the hot sun. I am interested in how this has worked for others who may have installed this material in place of carpeting. Keep us posted if anyone is undertaking that project.... Thanks.
My carpet is ok but it needs to be cleaned... like really cleaned badly! When i bought the boat i took my high pressure washer to it and then used the vacuum to suck up the water. That helped but i'd love to replace it with hydroturf... escpecially the diamond cut.. that looks really nice. I wonder how hard it would be to pull that carpet off and replace it???

Not sure how hard it is to remove the carpet, but the hydroturf is really easy to install.
Coming from a jetski background, hydroturf is common to lay on stand up jetskis in the rear as the foot mat. Most kits are pre-cut, and you just glue with contact cement. Dap or other.
Very resistant to water, sun, and mildew. It does look nicer if you spray it down once in a while, and clean it with soap. Will rip and cut if you drag something sharp and heavy on it. Like a sharp waterski fin. But this depends on the surface you pick. Diamond, or smooth. There are a bunch on the hydroturf website.
On the hydroturf, I think I saw an option to have it already inclue the sticky backing. Did you go that route or use your own double sided tape?
I chose the option of the pre-applied adhesive. It was definately easy to apply though, just peel and stick like a decal/sticker. My opinion, worth the small amout of extra $ for the small job.Quote:

Matt- It was a do it your self project. I just ordered a sheet of hydroturf (direct from hydroturf's website) and cut to size, same with the glove box. It easy enough to work with. To cut, just use a good scissors.

I got my Seadek installed today. I was lucky with the old pad coming off from what I have read here. Most of the adhesive came off with the old pad...about 45 mins of scrubbing with gasoline did the trick for me. My helper (and youngest wakeboarder) was excited about it as was I. Can't wait to put it to use!
