I just sold our 2013 Moomba Mobius LSV and am looking to upgrade. I have it narrowed down to two!
1. 2016 Supra SA550
2. 2020 Moomba Makai
Both have the same amount of hours. Price would be exactly the same. Help!!! lol

Initial reaction is Makai.
Lots of upgrades from 2016 to 2020 happened.
what's your crew size normally. what's your elevation. most important question is which one does the CFO like :)
supra has the big motor if elevation and imo 22ft is the sweet spot for boats.
makai is a large boat and if a small crew will take a lot more weight to surf. what motor in it.
assuming you have sat in both and can see the differences in materials and fit/finish. assuming colors are appealing to you on both.
wait for Larry to chime in. he knows a ton on the SA lines and can speak to the pros and cons of that hull.
I'd opt for supra if same price and same hours providing the makai is the 400/440. bigger motor for resale and slightly smaller boat would get my vote.
Yes the makai has the upgraded 450 Raptor, but the Supra has the 575 Supercharged Roush! We do typically have a smaller crew. And we are at a higher elevation (Northern Utah)
What are some of the biggest upgrades you know of? Even going from the higher end Supra to the Moomba- I assume there are some “upgrades” that the Moomba has that Supra didn’t in 2016? Just not sure what those are.
Man, that would be a tough choice. But the tech has definitely changed from 2016. I had a friend with a 2015 G25 loaded out. When he got in my 2021 Makai, he couldn't believe how nice the features and finish were and how good the wave was. Of course, he then sold it and recently bought a new Paragon! But he dropped 300k doing that too! No doubt that SA is going to surf good. If you are thinking about the resale before you buy something, you will probably never get what you really want. Like was said earlier, take your wife on both boats and don't tell her anything about what year they are. See what she thinks feels better inside. Both are great boats.

The Gen 2 SA's surf and wakeboard at elite levels with minimal added weight.
The 2016 SA has the same pro tower as the makai.
The 550 is thirsty and may be overkill, but you didn't mention your elevation.
The tech is probably fairly close between both boats.

As for the Supra - the bigger change in tech from 2016 to 2018 is the surf system and towers.
2016 was a redesign year for the SA model where the boat looks similar to the models of today - deeper and heavier boat.
2013 to 2015 Skiers introduced the SA model, but the boat had a lower bow and sides. I think Skiers Marketing called it 'shock and awe'.
If I were in the market for a Supra SA, I would purchase one from 2018+
I agree on 2018+ if only because of fx1 tower and swell surf 3 plate upgrade, plus I think they added 300# of ballast capacity, 6 pumps
Loved my 2018 SA

I don't have any experience with the SA but if it were me I would lean towards the Makai. I like the idea of the newer boat with the upgrades. Does the Makai have any warranty left? That might be a factor as well.
