Good to hear you keep the extra pump.
The modulator makes sense. It's about the only thing left to change before swapping the whole distributor. Glad to hear you are still on the water.

Went out to ski at 8 this morning, lost spark idling across the lake. Jiggled wires, touched all the connections and sensor spots unplugged the modulator and coil, tried all what I have been doing and nothing.
You can buy a Clymers manual for indmar engines

It has wiring diagrams in it to track down what might be causing the issue.
The ECM takes in sensor inputs and then dictates when to fire even though you are carburated.
No ECM on my Outback. I think I will buy an electronic distributor and get some help installing it.
Marine HEI Electronic Distributor 65K Coil - Compatible with 350 5.7
Ordered a basic replacement distributor. Going to have a mobile marine mechanic help me install it and trace any other spark/ground/wiring issues.
Will report back.
Finally got the right distributor and installed it today with some help from a mobile marine mechanic. Boat runs great but it sounds a bit different. Maybe because I haven't run it in three weeks.
What a struggle but I learned some things. Lost about 5 weeks of using my boat, but luckily, I have ski friends on the lake.
Thanks for all the input.
What sounds different? Timing set correct?
