Is the river still that cold? I'm out here for work still and it is hot in the city!

Breaking in the new engine, the one dog is unimpressed with the first wake boarding of the year.

Have you ever put the dogs in the water with those on? Curious how they do with them.
They do go in, every time we do. They swim around and then flail at the swim platform until someone lets them back on the boat. I dont think these are really life saving devices, but it gives them a little bit of flotation and you get a handle to help pull them back ont he boat. Worth the $$ we paid for them.
I don't trust my mutt on my new vinyl.

We have a dog vest on a he small dog and it works great.
Oso my black lab doesn't need one.
We have towels tucked into all the seats and we keep his nails really well trimmed.
Never an issue and several of the forum people have been out with us and Oso and know how well behaved he is.
No one even realizes we have a dog in the boat all the time looking at my interior.

Finally got some hours on the Supra SR400.
1) Wow the 6.2 over the 5.7
2) Black and Blue looks great on the water (ugh water spots), they did just wipe off
3) Can't use auto wake with 1 person in the boat without extra sacs. (it reaches limits)
4) The Supra bimini is the best I have put up and took down in years.

The Columbia is 55 degrees and well below the normal temperature this time of year but with the air temperatures getting near where they should be 90-100 degrees there will be some warming. The Columbia doesn't flood, it flows and right now it is at 368,000 cubic feet per second which is more water in a day than most lakes have in total containment. By the time the water reaches Portland it is 3-4 degrees warmer.
We had a big snowpack this year, and it's spring runoff. The rivers are mid 50's. Could I have worn my wetsuit? Sure, but when the air temps and water temps were both in the 50's I'm gonna be comfortable.
They've even been running news stories about the cold water temps this time of year. This was posted Thursday:
Quote:
The rising temperatures and dry days come on the heels of a springtime snow shellacking on Mount Hood. Timberline Ski Area reports 19 inches of new snow in the past 72 hours, as of Thursday morning. And farther south in the Cascades, Mt. Bachelor reports seven inches over the past three days near the top of its Sunrise Express chairlift.
Warmer temperatures will increase Cascades snowmelt, Weagle said. He said Wednesday night that no northwest Oregon or southwest Washington rivers were forecast to get to flood stage in the next seven days, however.
A more pressing concern, he said, is the appeal of cold waters on warm spring days. River temperatures are still in the 40s and 50s -- temperatures that can quickly bring hypothermia, he said.
"Resist that temptation to get in the water," he said.
agreed. In fact, the warmer weather is bringing colder water from runoff!

And the current is ripping pretty good. The charts say 3mph, but it sure feels fast.
As an example, when we drop someone off at the dock, we come into the dock with the bow pointed upstream 90 degrees to the dock and have the boat in gear driving forward against the current just to stay in place for the person to get on/off the boat. While waiting for me to get the truck, the wife was literally "driving" upsteam to stay in one spot. It's really interesting for sure!
I jumped in the other day to "drain my personal ballast" and it literally took the wind out of me. And my "ballast valves" were stuck shut for a bit if you know what I mean!
I had a few people check in with me to make sure that this wasn't us... (it wasn't. we were on the Columbia last night, but we were about 15 minutes downstream, whereas this happened about 15 minutes upsteam of where were launch.) Really sad.

Finally got the Mojo out for her first demo to a wonderful family that currently owns a 2012 Malibu. From what I got they were VERY impressed with the new technology and the fit and finish of the boat. First time I used the surf pockets on top of the Bimini and damn it was nice. VERY solid up there and took the worry away of wanting another set of racks.

Thanks Joe! Was going to get my drone out and get some aerial photos but work and travel has been consuming and taking away from us getting settled in and organized.
Then Tuesday night I had picked up my daughter from school, heading home talking about the day, and BOOM. A jeep coming the other way crossed over the double yellow heading right for us. I swerved as far over onto the shoulder as I could to avoid a head on but it wasn't quite enough. Got hit at about 50mph along the driver side and threw us into a spin into the oncoming traffic - we were also going about 50mph. Luckily we didn't roll but the jeep wasn't so lucky. Another car that was following the Jeep had to ditch to avoid hitting me spinning around coming at him and went off the road and through a fence made of railroad ties.
Witnesses and the police say that maybe 6" more and it could have been a few fatalities that day. Scary stuff.
Haven't gotten the final verdict yet but most likely will be shopping for a new truck here soon due to frame damage (in all my free time)...

^^^^ Is that the new Rear wheel steering mod???
Dang, Berg, I hope you guys are OK.
Yeah we're good. After the adrenaline wore off we had a little stiff and sore to deal with but luckily everyone walked away. I thought for sure the driver of the Jeep would be in bad shape but amazingly climbed right out. No idea how many times they rolled.

Poor guy following the Jeep that had to ditch his car - it was a brand new 2017 Subaru Impreza, only about 500 miles on it, that he had custom ordered from the factory. He was actually in good spirits considering he just got it.
Thankfully we were not towing a trailer, boat, etc. or it would have been a lot worse.
dam.... glad is all okay
All that stuff can be replaced. Glad you guys are still with us and the other folks as well.
I thought this was kind of a cool looking photo - panorama makes things have a weird perspective, lol

Finally have a boat picture to contribute and it's on the water.
Still having ballast issues, but all else seemed good. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a9a4e99f11.jpg

Holy cow you guys are incredibly lucky Berg! Glad you are all ok. Life is fragile, no doubt. Enjoy the hunt for a new truck:)
Thanks for the compliment! 4 rev10s really fill the tower nicely! And using the stock brackets it's gives it a cool staggered look too. I didn't get a picture of the final product of all 4 of them hanging but I do have this one of me working on it https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...cc80377477.jpg
Can't wait to get home in a couple weeks and break it in.

As per tradition, we dropped the boat in the water for opening night fireworks of the Portland Rose Festival.

Sunday was a blast, amazing weather and just the 3 of us for family time. I did sets on slalom, wakeboard, wakesurf, and wake foil.
The wife and kid surfed.
I guess no one in Portland gets up before noon. This was 11am!http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6yxdjysp.jpg
Jax enjoyed his surf session.

First surf of the season. Wave was horrible, lake was busy and choppy, but I got right up. Water was amazingly warm at 58. Surfed again couple hours later, wave was much better, no pics of that ome. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3a93e129e6.jpg

My older son trying out Dan's suck gate and a new Slingshot Gnarwhal. 64 degrees just doesn't cut it when it's overcast and the stiff wind blows up enough of the hull spray to make it feel like it's raining.
