The 2014 Old Guys 360 Attempt Thread

So I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong with the 360s.

Mainly I was trying to snowboard/brute force the spin with my body by trying to load up and spin around and use my head to spot the end of the spin. This would cause me to over rotate or rotate just enough to have the board pointing the right direction but me being off balance and falling.

For me, I slowly come down the wave to the front near the boat, crouching, and looking down at the wave. Then I use both hands(the depth into the water and force is the key) to dig into the wave, this starts the spin and slowly enough that you can make the turn and come around. I also look down and watch the wave so I can see the exit. Previously I was looking at the boat or some other reference point. By looking down and using my hand(s) to start the spin you can actually see what doing on...

That's actually with less ballast(IBS empty) and the gate..

That one qualifies. As long as the age requirement is met and the OFSC Dues were paid on time and a you are in good standing . A moderator will soon send you a authentic certificate :o

I did one last Sat. while testing my new surf gate. Rode it out! Surprised the $heet out of myself. Have 4 witnesses and no video. Starting rolling vid to do another one and didn't quite get it. Never got a second turn as the holiday idiots started showing up and I had forgotten my wallet so we didn't get to gas up before we launched. Now I know I can do it so I'll post a video soon.

OK, you guys are right. Never really happened (except that it did).

Big foot, the Loch Ness Monster, Area 51 aliens & kane's 360.

Now that I've got the 360 & 180s down, if you're over rotating, drag your left hand in the water to stop the spin. Start the spin with your right, then when you come around use your left hand to act like a spin brake..You can even use right hand and smack the wave to get going straight..

Anyone got any helpful tips on my issues? I did this all day and could not get back into the push to ride it out. It's been very frustrating to say the least.

Well, your posting skills are impressive. I can post up videos all day of pro riders like JJ Wolfe or Drew Danielo nailing 360's all day too. But, unless you have a vid of an old guy nailing one, please save the vid for the PRO threads on here. This is the OLD GUY thread, not the young girl or PRO thread. I'm perfectly aware of how to post such video I just didn't happen to get one (video) that day. By the way, since you quite obviously shoot video all day every day, please, please post up just ONE video of the esteemed WOLFEMAN nailing just one 360. We are all waiting to see it. Well, you got it now. Just have to get on the front foot coming out. I always get on it too early and wash out (cept for that one undocumented time I rode it out :cool:). Had 3-4 good ones last w/e but couldn't duplicate it. Oh well. Still so much fun to try!!!!

Dang Joe, that was close! Almost looked like you knew what you were doing ;)

So close! You need some forward speed, start at the back of the wave and slowly come forward then make the turn. That'll help keep you in the pocket after the spin. Use your hands to start and stop the spin if needed..

I saw him once, in 2012, in Texas...

Surfed all weekend with him a few years ago, once you get him in the water, its tough to get him back in the boat, can you blame him ....:o

Try moving your front foot toes closer to the edge, help you get a better edge and control..;)
