Nice looking boat and great SC customer service story! Kudo's...........
Some Exile love;
You may remember, I had my XM9s painted to match the '08 Outback. This time around I figured I'd try to spray em myself. Before, scuffed and ready to prime;

Ready for color;

I also PlastiDip'd the grilles;

I think they came out great!
Ian, that looks Aewsome .
With all the plasti dip talk on here. I was thinking about my xm9 grills, originally I had ordered them black but the black we're back ordered so I got the chrome. How did you get it down the throat of the horn grill.?
got additional pics...
Looks awesome. Is the black a flat finish?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
looks awesome Ian, cant wait till you get them on the tower and have a nice sunny day to photo them for us
Those are even cooler than the blue!
Regarding painting the grills; it seemed that the PlastiDip just goes right in the horn hole; I didn't have to do anything.
Regarding color; it is my understanding that Intense Green is new for 2013, but I haven't seen them side by side. I used ModelMaster Sublime Green (Mopar) which isn't exact, but is pretty close.
The key to making it look good is in the clear coat; I use Rustoleam Painters Touch 2x Coverage clear coat - it is the best clear I've ever seen!

Here is a picture that shows the color match - like I said, not exact but close enough for me, especially since they won't be next to each other;

I keep staring into that glossy reflective hull... Can you say 'shiny!'
I Spy new green life jackets and green "stuff" to go with new green boat. hehehe
Someone has been spending some quality time in a shall we say, somewhat cold storage building! lol

My replacement parts from SC arrived in like 2 days, but I didn't have a chance to pick them up from the dealer until this week. Still blown away by the awesome service!

I also started some instal projects; pop-up cleats and pin cleats were first up.
Clean slate;

(I still need to shorten the rope for the pin cleat)
Have you found any small cracks in the gelcoat where the rear towbar was mounted, and where the wakeplate was mounted? I would think that the way they were both deformed, gelcoat damage could be a possibility.
I also installed the Samson tower mirror arm. It's like 12" too short for my liking, but better than nothing...

An ian trademark "stickerbombed" mirror;

I do like the quick-release, which allows the bracket to fold off to the side;

Tinkering in the boat the other day I came to the conclusion that the area above the cupholders in the gunwales is much too plain – granted this will house RGB-LED clad Exile speakers, as well as RGB-LED rings around the cup holders, but that big flat spot was bugging me.
Before;

I decided that I would try to make something similar to what Supra and Malibu have, but since I don’t have a CNC milling out of aluminum is out – searching eBay I found some chrome tail light bezels that were the right size, so I cut some acrylic and sanded 1 side, then glued it into the bezel, and placed a black Moomba sticker on it;

Next I added some RGB-LED strips;

I’m undecided if I am going to use it or keep working on the idea for something nicer. I think it looks OK, but just quite where I want it yet.
Any suggestions?
Yea, have some more kids.
You are now, most definitely, without a doubt, undeniably my new super hero.
I love this idea!
I like the bezel, especially lit. If you are wanting to change it up you could do "OUTBACK V" instead.
Ian,
Why the use of RGB strips instead of just plain green ones? Where do you get them from?
Thanks,
RGB is more fun, and not much more work or money.
I am using 5050 SMD RGB strips from eBay.
These are basic RGB, which have 4 contacts. There are also "horse race" or "chaser" 5050 RGB strips, which have 10 contacts and while offer more programming options the contacts are microscopic and hard to solder.
Started measuring and planning my stereo layout.
Since I ordered the boat without ballast (never used it on the DD, can't see why I'd want it on the V) I've got a huge "ski locker" to play with - I think I'm going to split the door and use the back part as an in-floor cooler, and the front as a ski locker. Also toying with the idea of putting the batteries in there;

This is a Group 27, and fits perfectly on both sides. The wheels are turning...
For anyone curious, this is how the mirror arm fits hen folded to the other side - perfectly out of the way;

I also decided it would make more sense to build a mock-up box out of foam board before I cut it out of wood; when I did the DD I had the boat a few feet away so it was easy to tweak as I went. With Chase's LSV I measured then built and brought to the boat (30 minutes away) and that proved to be a PITA. Since the V is about 20 minutes away I figured this would save some headache.
The box is about 2.5 cubit feet (internal), and the port will be in the outside so as not to take up and displacement.

This boat doesn't have a traditional hump, rather just a 3" tall I-beam - I was going to build on top and forward of to save space, but the under dash area is much larger than the DD, so I can have a box that's 10" deep and not sacrifice much leg room; in fact I'll have significantly more legroom in this boat that I did in the DD.
If I ever decide to switch to larger woofers I can get about 4.5 cubic feet if I use the space above the I-beam in addition to this.
Ian,
Did you add backing plates to your pop up cleats? I am currently adding rear ballast to my boat, and today I noticed 1/2" white plastic plates added to the inside of the hull where the factory installed cleats were. Not sure how important they are, but wanted you to know.
The front had them glassed in, and I made some for the back out of Starboard.
Thanks for looking out though!
Ian , be careful with the batteries in the ski locker, water tends to get in there quit a bit, with no ballast it might be minimal, but the Moomba water ghosts may dampen the locker.
I spy stickerbombed Rearview?!?! I may have to borrow your idea... I don't think I'll give it back though.
Yep, it's my trademark. I did the same thing to the mirror on our '08 but I can't find a picture.
Nekked Boat , stickered mirror. Nice signature.....:cool:
Ian, ever get your racks installed?
Not yet, thinking I'm going to have a piece machined to eliminate the clamp and allow me to bolt the rack directly to the tower with the handle facing down.
This all depends on my motivation level, of course.
I got a few deliveries today; inspired by another post on here, I am going to install a heater vent behind the drivers seat, so I ordered a matching Hot Tube with chrome ring from HeaterCraft;
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/16/gaqy7uqe.jpg
I also got a light for top of the tower, to replace the flip-up factory thing;
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/16/y8yhapyj.jpg
Ian, where did you get the light? I can't stand the flip up one with the Oz bimini.
Here's a few. In NY the anchor light needs to be the highest point on the boat. Will this put it higher than the tower pylon?
