Gas. at what point do you cut back

We are luckily enough that the new house is 30 miles closer to the lake. So that saves 60 miles round trip and at 4.50 a gallon Diesel right now thats nearly 20 bucks a trip cheaper just towing. So that can now be added to the Boat fuel expense.

Another nice way to look at this is RAISE that fuel price to about 4.50 a gallon and all the weekenders disappear, and all the youngsters out there just trashing the smooth water will be gone as well. They arnt going to pay that kinda fuel price to boat if there not serious boaters.

Also my crew plans to camp out at our new house when we go out Mondays and Tuesdays so that saves them travel fuel also which = more money for boat fuel LOL.

It was a well calculated decision to buy where we did lol.

Cut back? How about "Visa, it's everywhere you want to be..."


Few years ago when fuel was way up there we had some friends who took the stance of "ok, we'll go out but everybody only gets one turn". They'd go out, sit and float around, say no 100 times to the kids to do anything fun (wakeboarding, skiing or tubing) and then come home with everyone pretty much upset or bummed. Talk about a miserable way to spend your time.

They could afford gas just fine - it was a matter of principle or something for them... After witnessing that a few times I was just blown away. We're out here to have fun. Sometimes it cost more, sometimes it cost less. But that's why we're here!

Well put. No intentions of cutting back here.

my girl and i are looking to get a house that is about 35 miles closer to the lake. problem is it 35 miles farther from her work lol. but being a nurse she really only has to go to work 3 days a week and the savings in a lower cost of living i think would make up for it.

When gas peaks like it has I start asking friends/family that I've been taking out to chip in for the fuel.

It's still a smoking deal for them, I still had to pay for and maintain the boat which can easily be as much or more than fuel.


The only thing better than owning a boat is a friend that owns a boat.

I am sure I will complain about the price of a gallon of gas, whether it is going into the boat or my slightly thirsty Hemi powered Magnum, but there is no way I am cutting back on grabbing every possible opportunity to be on the water.

There is no way I could put a price on the pleasure I get from spending relaxing time on the water, and especially "pulling rope."

This is the same issue we are having but decided even though it was a slightly longer commute, about 15 extra minutes for Claudia we would still pay it because the extra 1 hour travel time per day to the lake is an extra hour per day we can be on the lake.

The other thing we really like is the fact the area we moved to is much smaller and quieter then where we are now.

It will actualy cost me the most in change of commute as right now im 1/2 a mile from work and now ill be 30 miles but im ok with it since i only work 3 day then 4 days a week most.

Yea thats how it sounds till you think about i work 12.5 hour days, add the time to get up before work and the time to drive to and from work then a little time at home after and you end up with 3 or 4 days a week that all you do it work.

I personally like 4 10hr days myself. The 4 days a week off are nice but the 4 days i work like this week really do wear you down.
