ran into that a few times as the bartender yelled out, "Last call!" Sure wish I could undo some of those.

Lol, I was thinking about those foggy googles as well..... Too funny
Berg, how'd ya know it was always the fault of tequila?
I think that picture accurately describes my brother's disease.
Berg, congrats on the "new" boat! It looks fan-freaking-tastic!!!
Thanks all. It was a long sometimes painful process. Once rebuilding time came along a lot of new ideas started popping up and that was fun. You guys here have all been very inspirational.
Only thing I had actually planned on doing this year was the new cover and maybe a bimini. Crazy how things change.
Dude...that Upholstery job is awesome! They did a great job and the Moomba on the back bench looks amazing!
Did you have a reference for the Bentley's Upholstery shop or did you just shop around. Looks like they do incredible work. They had to be pretty pricey from the looks and detail.
Bentleys is the one all the dealers in the area go to and they were highly recommended. Spendy - well I guess that's in the eye of the beholder. I went to a few different shops. One the guy walked up, glanced back and forth, and threw out a number. Bentleys climbed in, counted cushions, inspected everything, asked a bunch of questions, then went back and wrote up a formal quote. I felt a lot better about that approach.
Since we had the opportunity to basically start from a blank slate we did a totally different design than the original and they helped to make some suggestions in that area. That drove up the cost, but then I was able to offset that by stripping out all the interior myself and bringing it in to them. Plus that way the boat didn't have to sit down there for a month or two and I could get other things going on it. Then reinstalling all the pieces at home once it was done.
One of the things I'm VERY happy about is that they replaced pretty much all of the foam in the cushions. The other shop didn't even take notice of that where Bentleys was saying that a lot of it was dead and would need replaced. The engine cover foam is probably 1.5x as thick as the old stuff now, by my request, since it gets a lot of traffic and a bit more firm but they added a thin layer on top to cushion it.
The logo embroidery actually wasn't bad. If I recall it was either $40 or $60? They actually made the embroidery shop go back and redo it like 2-3 times until they were satisfied with the quality of it - no extra charge there.
I'm very happy with the outcome overall. In hindsight few little things I would have done differently but I can live with it for now!
Great work. Looks awesome. What did the revamp cost you all up, do you think?
Bigger numbers than I ever would have imagined.
Are you sitting down? Grand total between me and insurance for everything was north of $10k... http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/13.gif
I had a hard time stomaching that going into a boat that is 12 going on 13yrs old. But if I didn't, then what? I'm stuck with a torn up old boat. I know that cost would not be recouped in selling or trading it but I don't have any plans to get rid of it for the foreseeable future and a new boat payment is not in the budget. So I started to look at it like fixing up an old car. A classic I'll keep so I didn't skimp on the important stuff. It's only got about 400 hours total on the hull and about half that on the engine.
Maybe 10yrs down the road things will change. Who knows.
Well, at least it's a V-drive, so all is not lost. ;)
Well when you start with a really good model and good engine and drive system you can't really go wrong. There's guys that spend more than that just on stereo stuff.
I'm impressed, especially since our boat is nearly identical. Berg, did you use anything special to clean up the fiberglass around where the cushions go? The fiberglass is pretty discolored on ours and it would be nice for it to look as white as yours does!
I've been pretty lucky with the gel coat except now I have gouges around the speakers in the front I still haven't figured out how to get rid of. I just used a soapy detergent mix and brillo type sponge on the inside. Then went over it with a quick detailer. I thought about a full buffing job but in the end decided to skip it.
I do have some yellowing on an outside rear corner starting to show that I may want to do something about. I've read that products with oxylic acid will do the trick but watch out for products with actual bleach in them which can make it worse over time.
Maybe try a marine hull cleaner that is gel coat safe like this - http://www.amazon.com/Star-brite-Ins.../dp/B0014488L4
The dude with the Sky Supreme seemed to be happy with it.
Berg that looks amazing! love the diamond stitching accents. I want to redo ours in a couple years and this is inspiring lol
How did I miss this?!?! Berg, that looks awesome!!! Completely updated. Love the vinyl choices.
i had the same idea if i redo the vinyl in my boat.. i was thinking the blue and white with some grey, along with the dimond stitch and maybe some of that carbon fibre looking vinyl to lay in there as well..i also like the carbon cup holders haha
Looks amazing! Starting this thread in the pride & joy section is very fitting.
And....$10k seems reasonable with results like that!
Berg that turned out great! I know I got a couple preview pictures but they definitely didn't do it justice. Congratulations on the new boat!
I don't know if I have mentioned it or not, but your boat looks awesome!
Berg,
I just came across this thread and all I can say is;
- EFFING FREAKIN AWESOME!
- I LOVE IT!!!!
- SWEET!!!
- You better be sleeping with a new Rottweiler out back (though I prefer German Shepherds)
It really came out sweet, and I think it was the perfect thing to do. It is pretty much the same recipe that I was headed down with my '02 until I ran across a deal on another boat I just couldn't pass up. I had already ordered up about twelve different samples (full yards, not the little 4" squares) of different vinyls.
But again, MAN! did that come out a creampuff!
And as far as the cost? If you had sold your torn up boat, took that money and added the $10k - NFW would you have as classy a piece as that baby! And do the math, minus the stereo$$$ and the interior$$$, that doesn't leave that much but to spend on elbow grease.
- And where the hell is your sub? Is it firing down? Sealed enclosure? Ported?
Congrats!! (though now you need to call SeaDek....)
This year's "Zipper Award" goes to....(feel the tension?)....Berg!!!!
He really should be featured in the Maniac's newsletter. Drew, how about letting RickT know this should be included with pics?
Done.
I agree, 10 character rule is stupid.
Wow guys - very honored by the thought!
Eric - sub is up firing. Down firing would have conflicted with ballast hose and steering cable since the sub sits so far back in. I basically lost no leg room. Goal was to have it completely concealed.
Never thought I'd be saying this but I've had to turn it down numerous times for too much bass.
WOW! That looks amazing! I have a 2000 Mobius V, I didn't know they could look that good. My pet peeve with mine is the solid piece sun deck. Could you give some info on how you made yours into a 3 piece? Also how big of a pain in the a$$ was it to do the carpet?
The sun deck was one piece.
Yes sirs - 2001 and it was originally the 1 piece rear cover. One of my biggest pet peeves too... I can't take full credit for the work of splitting it though. I told the upholstery shop what I wanted and where - marked the lines for them to follow from the bottom side up. They took the original 1 piece and cut it down and reused the backing boards to build the new 3 piece setup. I wanted a very tight seam between cushions and no piping or diamond inlays because the girls are always laying out up there and didn't want pattern tattoos. Also, no indents for releases or weird straps so I copied a strap style I saw at the boat show earlier this year. With the new thicker foam it all fits nice and snug all the way across.
The trickiest part so far has been finding the right size offset piano hinges for the new side compartments. I have some aluminum white powder coated on order still coming from Indiana. No one had or could get stainless in the right size/dimensions.
I don't think you could get away with cutting it down from 1 to 3 and reusing/doctoring your existing vinyl. Just not enough material there to work with or you would end up with some funny seams. Costwise, having it recovered was a minimal difference going from 1 to 3.
On the carpet I really can't give you full details since Newty took care of that for me. From what I know, on mine there are some screws on the inside of the compartments holding the seats down as well as under the rubber trim strip down low on the drivers side. Once you get those removed, prying and lifting the edges to tuck the carpet in isn't too bad. Ripping out the old carpet involves a scraper, tough fingers, maybe some solvent, some swearing, a box knife, etc.
My floor actually has 2 removable panels plus I think the pedestal seat makes install a little easier.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k...sV/null-39.jpg
Trick is you need to make sure that you have extra carpet to fold over the edges of those panels and still have the grain all going the same direction as the rest of the floor. So basically order a little extra or oversized. There are stainless screws in the exposed corners but they are buried under the pile of the carpet. The other edges of the panels are under the seat bases, basically wedged in. The new heavier carpet makes the panels fit so tight you probably don't even need the screws holding them in.
I tell ya what, going from completely flattened old thin carpet to 40oz premium is so amazing...
Hole Lee Crap.
Awesome man...speechless.

So far the only time the dark has felt hot was the day I was hustling to get all the interior put back together and it was pushing into the upper 80's by noon - a rare thing around here. But then again EVERYTHING felt hot that day. With mostly just the accents being dark, the rest shouldn't be bad. The carpet definitely holds the heat though - should help it to dry out faster, hehe.
Just came across this thread and just WOW! Incredible
Berg, don't forget to treat the new vinyl with some 303.
Dude cannot believe how good the new interior looks! Awesome!
see you got some led's on there.. got any pictures with them lit-up?
Yep. I've been messing around with LEDs for a few years, adding more and more and... well.
