Yeah I’m the second owner, I’m thinking it must have been replaced at one point. I might need to just bite the bullet and pull it off to drain then order a replacement J pipe with the drain plug.

If you remove the impeller, is there enough room for you to slip a small piece of siphon tube down into the lower hose to get the residual water out? You wouldn't have to get it all out, just enough so that if it froze, it wouldn't expand enough to damage anything. Maybe something like an oil extractor tube that fits in through the dipstick might fit in there.

That’s not a bad idea!! I had t thought of that, I do have an oil extractor, I’ll have to see if the small tube can be fished down there.

If you are winterizing now, I would see about getting a replacement or having a local shop weld a bung in the tube while it is off.
Just fully remove it and you have all winter to get the new one installed.
As long as you get the majority of the water out, you will be fine.
