Trailer brakes are your friend. Make sure they work properly before you get in a situation where you'll need them.
I'm unhappy with the single axle brakes on ours. Even with a new actuator, fresh fluid & pads. Since we tow with a well equipped full size truck, it's not a major concern. If we had an SUV with under 8K towing, dual axle brakes would be a must for me.
Ford still hasn’t figured out the factory hitch!!
Arrgghhh, looking at adding a second F150 to the stable and the 2019’s STILL only have a 5000# weight carrying and 500# tongue.

Still amazed that Ford sells a pickup truck rated to tow over 9k but puts a 5k hitch on it.. Simply stupid. I saw a post about this and checked my Tahoe that has to tow package and i am rated for 10k at the hitch 8800 with the truck. Glad my tahoe was done correctly.Quote:

Huge difference. Even something like a Sequoia or Expedition have too much squat for me. Solid rear axle half ton for me all the way. I personally wouldn’t want anything less than a Yukon with the 5.3L for a Craz or heavier. Our Yukon pulls great but you can feel it get tugged around a bit over bumps and stuff. Next vehicle will be an RST suburban with the 6.2 at minimum. Longer wheelbase FTW.Quote:

Won’t touch a F150 for the reasons listed above by Larry. Receiver is rated at HALF the advertised tow capacity. Whereas my Yukon’s advertised at 8500 and has a 10,000lb receiver on it.Quote:

I towed my Mojo and SA with an F150 and wouldn't go any heavier than an SA with a 1/2 ton.
3/4 ton...FTW! I get better gas mileage with my 250 than I did with my 150 both towing and not towing. I get 15.8-16.1 not towing and 11.6-12.2 towing.

The SA is pushing a 1/2 ton, agreed. It has plenty of power with the 3.5EB and pulls the SA plus 500# lead fine, but the F-150 is very light and suspension is a little mushy and you can feel pushed around on winding roads.Quote:

followed several towing threads for a while and decided to finally check what's on my truck.
'16 chevy 1500 4x4 LT with the z71 package.
hitch is rated at 1200lbs tongue and 12,000 towing. says v-5 gm.
that said not a big deal to swap out a hitch on a ford BUT wonder how many others out there think it's good and really should pop the $250 for a new one.
