Thanks Guys. I do have a question. There is slight amount of play in my rudder. Not a lot, but it now has a few mm of play in it. I have never Noticed that before. Is this normal?
My boat has a recently installed (2 years, maybe?) steering cable and there's about a full inch of play, maybe 1/2" each direction.
Is there any cracking at the base of the fins or strut?

I did not see any cracking at the the base of the fins.
The Movement in the rudder is when I jiggle the rudder fore and aft. Not an issue with steering cable.

I just went through something similar, took the fins to a machine shop they used a hydraulic press to press the fins back to shape and I personally fixed the gouge with resin and gel coat. I would try to take it on yourself. Unless of course you're picky about color etc. Only cost me about 100 bucks and everything looks pretty damn close to perfect.

It pains me to see this. Glad you are ok. And to think \ I was pissed because my wife hit the corner of the dock as we were pulling in and left a small scuff mark on the side oif the boat. I'm no longer complaining.
But seriously, the important thing is everyone's ok. After the repair, it'll look mint and all you'll be out is the deductible. And on the bright side, you'll have a great story to tell on poker nights!
