I had vaper lock once (I think) which also could have been old gas....I wrapped the fuel lines around my fuel pump with this stuff;

and I haven't had an issue since. Again not totally sure if the gas was the root cause or heat, but I haven't had an issue since.

the fuel filter is easy to swap out. its right next to the v-drive on the starboard side. You don't need to disconnect the battery, it's very easy. As far as vapor lock goes it usually happens after you have been using the boat for a while and then stop for like 30 min or more. The fuel in the fuel pump will vaporize. Best thing to do is take a cold bottle of water and dump it over the fuel pump and that usually works instantly, at least it did for me. We had it happen quite often over the years.
^^. Exactly what we do on hot days. Keep a spare water bottle in the boat, fill up with lake water and pour on pump. Works every time.

I try to dump can of SeaFoam MarinePro in every time I fill up - seems to help w vapor lock along with opening the engine cover if I’m gonna be stopped for a while ... and keep that bottle of water to pour over the pump
