Well, I approach my trailer in gear (dunked to an inch or two over the fenders); or alternating bumping gear and neutral. I coast in between the trailer guides and make sure that my keel settles in the center of the bunks, with the tip of the boat a couple feet from the bow roller. Then yes, I put it back in gear and throttle up enough to get the boat to drive most of the way up the bow roller. when I get to a point where there's a bit too much resistance for it to climb the rest of the way up, I lay on the tip of the bow and clip the strap and crank the final 4 to 8" until the loop is snug to the roller.
Never had any real problems.
Yes! Or use some Gorilla Glue Gel, it seems to hold really well.
You would think they would make rings specifically for the application or something .......
