I agree 100%.
They have already been producing cool leather in BMW convertibles. Why is it such a stretch to think they couldn't figure it out in boats?
Skier's Choice puts dark vinyl on boats that is tested to be 10 degrees COOLER than normal vinyl.
People's reaction: It's gonna be hot.
*facepalm*
because it would make a LOT of sense to heavily advertise a new product that doesn't live up to its claims... That would be fantastic marketing. /sarcasm
Look at this cool new product that we put over the windows in our cars and boats. it's called "tint" and it actually makes things cooler.
No it doesn't. It's dark in color. it will make things hotter. Dark is always hotter.
Look at this cool new thing called sunglasses that protect your eyes from the sun. they're called sunglasses.
No they won't. those lenses are dark. they always make things hotter. Dark is always hotter.
10 degrees cooler? Okay, so instead of 140°, that dark gray is 130°. Whew, so much better! Nevermind that my old school light gray vinyl is 120°. You know, because it's not damned near black.
And no company in the history of marketing has ever exaggerated claims in order to sell a product. [emoji849]Quote:

No, they aren't saying that the chill tech is 10 degrees cooler than black vinyl, they are saying that the chill tech is 10 degrees cooler than LIGHTER COLORED NORMAL vinyl.
So you can get that badass looking dark interior and actually have it cooler than your old school light gray vinyl. Where is the downside?!?!?! (okay, aside from cost. because I already looked into the chill tech to reupholster my boat and I've been told it's a lot more expensive.)
I believe the dark is to be he same as old tech white in same sun. According to measurements and skin-witnesses at the dealer demo.
But again, they’re lying most likely. They’re not going to pull this trick on Shoebox!

I know what they're saying. First, how are you going to verify that it's 10° cooler? Second, I can guarantee that that dark gray "Cool Tech" vinyl is still going to be hot, and way hotter than light gray "Cool Tech" vinyl.
The basic point being, I don't care what you call it, dark gray (or any dark color) vinyl is going to be damned hot in the sun. A little cooler than the exact same shade old school vinyl? Sure. A little cooler than scorching is still scorching.

Liars! All of them!

Even my light gray and white vinyl gets pretty hot in direct sun so I would be curious to see how cool the new lighter to medium colors stay.
I don't know how it works, but I sat in an all black Mastercraft with their version of this 2 days ago on a fully sunny 89 degree day and it was cooler than the lava-infused dove grey in my boat!
Even if it’s cooler than white vinyl, I am not feeling the look of dark interiors in a boat.
Dark accents look better on lighter interiors.
FTR, the max coverage Bimini pretty much shades the entire seating area from behind windshield, so there is always a shaded option

Good lord you guys! New product, better than old product, makes boat nicer, way to go SC!

Dark interior is not for me. Something for everyone.
Add a little tint to that window and you are ready to go.
Blue flake on the hull was nice when the sun was hitting it.
Dark interior looks awesome to me. I would rather look good and burn my feet off as I would the opposite lol. Boat interior has been hot for a long time. If you can get it dark and stay the same temp, I’m in.

Medium gray or any medium color in Cool Touch. Freaking sweet. Would hide all the little crud marks. Yes please!

Everyone is missing the detail that this vinyl will stay cooler than traditional white vinyl. There will be no extra heat, unless they are flat out lying through their teeth.
And again, assuming that is true, there is no drawback compared to the current gold standard to ordering a dark interior.

But I obviously understand that everyone would like to touch it to believe it.

The MC dealer in my area had a little demo setup at the Louisville boat show this year with the black Cool Touch next to some light gray non-cool stuff and a heat lamp and it was pretty telling!
Sorry if I overlooked this, but what is the "door" in the floor next to the driver? Is this an access panel or another in floor cooler???
They do not show it open, but I recall a pic floating around with the locker open.
That was the pic I noticed on Facebook.
They have a video on the Supra site under the SL build for 2018. About 55 seconds in the video they show it open.

I thought it was for storing shoes and had a trash can in there

All of these companies are going to this new vinyl for a reason. All of the products are doing roughly the same thing and they work. Its not hype, I have two boats with nearly identical base colors (Black) sitting in AZ 115 degree heat. The cool touch stuff is tolerable the other is 500 degrees Kelvin... No gimmick, NO BS. One is tolerable the other you can cook an egg on. This isnt brain surgery, the tech is real.
No you missed it a little. The 10 degree diff is that being the new vinly in black vs old standard in natural and thats surface temp. What doesent get talked about is how rapidly it cools down rather then hold heat when you keep pressure on it. Black etc is still hot on the touch but where you would normally have to remove your hand, it instantly drops temp, and by a lot...
