2019 Supra SA infinite baffle subwoofer setup under drivers helm
Hello all,
The Supra boats forum sucks and this forum looks pretty active so I'm gonna ask for some help. Just picked up a 2019 Supra SA450 a week ago. I have a pretty nice stereo in my truck and so I was really shocked at how bad the OEM Supra SA stereo was! When we did the lake test the owner cranked the stereo and made me listen from the swim deck and it was cringeworthy!
For subwoofers, has anyone done a similar installation to the picture in the link below with 2x 12 inch JL M7-12IBs in free air? Would love to see more pics of a similar installation with trying to seal off the front to the back.
I don't think I have permission to post photos so here is the link:

Yes, they lost some foot space under the helm but I'll gladly take that for more bass/impact. I'm pretty sure I heard this same boat on Osoyoos lake in BC and it pounded pretty good. Problem is that I would really like to use a JL 12 with the lights to keep the whole interior consistent with the lighting. Sealed would require like 3ft^3 and ported like 5ft^2... any info would be much appreciated.
For the rest of the system, it turns out the the cabin speakers are mounted to thin plastic, the towers were running off 75 watts and the subwoofer was running off 200 watts bridged but in a tiny plastic enclosure under the driver's helm that is way too small.
I can handle fixing the cabin speaker mounting and possibly adding appropriately sized enclosures behind them after modelling it out to get more impact. I will most likely be running Hertz V4C bridged channels for the towers ~350+watts RMS to each tower. I'll be running a Hertz V1 at 700 watts to the JL 12 (if I go that route hopefully).
I'll also be running a Helix Ultra for the DSP duties to control the output / crossover points as best as possible. I have one on hand so I might as well use it. I also have an mic array and access to a very good tuner locally and so we should be able to make it sound good. From what I understand, we will need to do it on the water for best results. Looking forward to it!
Boat is in storage until May and so I'm just doing some preliminary research until then.
