Supra SA PDM Faults on Ballast Pumps.. and Solution
I have a 2021 Supra SA 450. Other than replacement impellers in the 6 ballast pumps each year, I've had no issues with the ballast system until the last couple weeks, when I started getting PDM faults on several of the pumps. I had just recently serviced the pumps (i.e. removing old/worn impeller, cleaning interior surface with a very light wet 400 grit sandpaper just to remove the gunk and smooth the interior surfaces, then new impeller and o-rings)... The PDM faults are pretty annoying when your ballast fills up and you can't empty it.
Well, I found the problem, which is why I'm posting it here for posterity; I bought knockoff Jabsco impellers on Amazon, link is: http://bit.ly/4ncO0tR (if you don't want to click, these are the green Jabsco 6303-0007-P compatibles for $22, so less than half what Jabsco charges for the OEM impellers.
Well, there's a reason - my PDM faults were due to these knockoff impellers failing, the pump drive shaft wore right through the center of the impeller, and so the pump was spinning, but the impeller was not. You get what you pay for I guess. I think the PDM faults were for temp warnings coming from the pumps that had no spinning impellers.
