carpet cleaning good or bad?

I was out on the boat with a friend the other day and I mentioned that I was going to wash the carpets at the end of the season with one of those home carpet cleaning machines. He told me not to do this because they put special mold resistant chemicals in the carpet and I might wash them out. It this true? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

my dealer says they pressure wash the carpets when they are real matted or dirty..
going to do this in the spring.

Left over soap attracts dirt and your carpets, so just don't use a very aggressive cleaner and make sure you rinse it out well. Both the rug doctor and pressure washer work great. Good luck!
