elec. problems???????

my 02 mobius has some elec. problems under the dash. when i accelerate all my guages max out and when i back off to nuetral they return to normal operating levels. i also smelt some burning or wire melting smell but when i got under the dash all the connections feel tight and didnt feel any wires getting too hot. there was a little block that i think 4 wires plugged onto, 2 red and 2 black, not sure tho. about 1" x 1" in size that mounts inside a tiny silver box that popped out so i remouonted it wit no change in problem. any ideas.

From the sounds of it you might be getting too much power. Do you see the volts guage also spike up when you go faster? If you are getting too much power then that would also explane why you are starting to smell some burning wires.

yes the volt meter spikes too, would this be the voltage regulator? if so where's it located?
