fresh water intake

have a question for any senior member, which intake do you put your motor flusher on under the boat. the foward or aft one to start you motor in driveway?

I am guessing one is your ballast system. (guessing because I don't have one)
I only have one water intake through the hull. Can you open the motor hatch and trace the water line from the raw water pump back to the intake through the bottom of the hull?
