V-drive grinding noises

Hello all, I've got an 05 xlv that recently has started making some weird grinding noises. When you go from low speed to neutral, either forward or reverse, the drive makes a grinding noise for a couple of seconds. It's also intermittent, I could drive for hours and not have the issue than all of a sudden it'll start grinding. I think it might be something in the linkage but I don't know what exactly to check. Any ideas? Anyone else have this problem?
