so the big test. i drill a hole in the steering cable and injected ship to shore plid into the housing and turning the wheel from stop to stop. it took 1/2 hour of turning and injecting and then when i turned the cable up hill it would bring rust up and out the hole so i kept going till the rust stopped coming.let it sit over night and tried again and the same thing in about 5 minutes. went out every hour and sprayed and turned and now the wheel turns like new. tape the hole and do this two or three time a year and the cable sould never seaze again

here is the web site for the spray www.ship-2-shore.com. this stuff will stop and protect from rust and corrosion and is dielectric it will cover and stop rust or corrosion

I wish I would have known that when I replaced my cable on my 02 Mobius. I have the 06 XLV and so far no steering issues.

Where did you get the spray? Sounds like a good idea, I will have to try this before looking at buying a new cable.

Thank you mustangairchair. My 05 XLV is in need of a new steering cable but, I think I will give this a try before I go and change it out!

I need a new cable but am going to try this first. Did you unhook your cable from the rudder to do this? Also did you drill the hole at the rudder end or at the end by the steeering assembly?
Thanks Eddie.

Somebody was asking the other day about lubing the cable. This was the thread I couldn't find.

Thanks for the suggestion and pics. Does the plid can have a long straw to inject the fluid, or did you do it another way to get it into the cable sleeve?

THanks.

I'm in the process of trying this, I have an 05 Mobius LSV and I am unable to get through the case of the cable. It looks like there is a metal casing inside of the plastic one. I've had someone turn the wheel while I watch to make sure I'm not looking at the cable. It doesnt move when the wheel is turned so I dont think its the cable. Any Ideas how to get through this? My drill bits don't seem to be doing the trick.
