So my trailer came with the plug that is flat and has an extra male on it to control the surge brakes...no vehicle seems to have a plug to accomidate it and i was sick of trying to find something to override the brakes with.. so i put a seven prong round rv plug on it and it makes things so much easier....thought id share it was a easy cheap upgrade.

The 7 prong is definitely much more common than the 5. I just went with a 5 to 7 adapter though, so I can still pull with vehicles that only have a 4 prong (like my Jeep).

we bought an adapter that plugs 7 into my ford and has 4 and 5 plug on the end of it with rubber boots to protect it. cost $30, but has been nice. just have to remember to remove it when done towing to protect someone else from needing it more than me :)

I also switched mine out to just a round 7. Keeps me from loosing the 5 to 7 pin adapter. Cheep and great upgrade to do.
