I thought I'd share some of the tweaks I've made to my 08 LSV. Here is how it looked the day I picked up.

I liked the streak graphics better than the oval that came on the boat, and preferred the 09 LSV decal by the windshield as well. They were all fairly easy to apply. Just measure carefully and use plenty of water mixed with a drop or two of dish soap. I used a bondo applicator to work out the bubbles, starting from the center and working out to the edge.

Cargo nets from http://www.eznetorganizer.com/ added. One piece of advice... don't use the front nets to store your oil (as pictured). You'll be messing with your battery wonder why your back is all wet, only to discover you were leaning on the oil container and it exploded all over... :mad:

Ok, not really a mod but thought I'd show my fake-a-lake. The original hose I used burst so I bought 1 foot of radiator hose from the auto parts store. Added a PVC barb fitting and hose adapter. Works great and no crawling under the boat!

I picked up the cargo nets at Sears on clearance. I've seen them at Ace and Scheels as well. I think the brand is EZ Nets or something like that. I use mine for ropes and handles mostly and they work great.

I hook the fake-a-lake to the v-drive water intake. I'll snap a pic next time I hook it up.

I didn't like how the ski locker pin would push on the ballast bag when full, so I shortened it. Just cut some of the pin off and drilled a new hole.

My wife made some board rack covers to keep the bugs off when towing. They stretch a little and fit nice and tight so no flapping in the wind.

Brain i'm assuming that sub enclosure is a premade box of MDF? If so in that position you can get water, especially coming over the bow and if it hits that MDF it'll swell and crumble so fast you won't believe it! Being as you can't see it i would recommend you pull it, strip that carpet and coat it twice with resin or spray on truck bed liner.

You can always put the carpet back on if you wish. I'm just saying ... seen it happen more than once!

Yep, good suggestions. I built the box and did use MDF, but I coated the box with 3 heavy coats of polyurethane before carpeting. I also put 1" plastic feet on the bottom of the box so there is a gap between the box and floor.

Ok, not really a mod but thought I'd show my fake-a-lake. I started with a washing machine drain hose (1" ID with 1 1/4" ID on the end), stuck in a 1" pvc barb fitting and added a hose adapter.

I'd also like to know where you are connecting that "fake-a-lake".

Sure - here's a pic from an older thread that shows where to connect. Loosen hose clamp, remove black hose, attach fake-a-lake, tighten down hose clamp.

I put this together to keep the backwash from the bilge from entering the ski locker. I couldn't find a plug to fit tight so I picked up an inch and a half marine plug and ground down to rubber to the right diameter. Replaced the nut with a wing nut and cut off the bottom edge to fit.

I picked up this charger at Bass Pro Shops on Black Friday for $75! It's a 4/4 multi-stage two bank charger made by ProMariner.

Multi-stage charging means that at first the charger will bring both batteries back to 14.6 VDC during the charging phase, then hold them there to complete charging while desulfating/conditioning the batteries. When that is finished it goes into maintenance mode that will maintain full charge for short or long-term storage.

One other nice feature is the transfer-on-demand that will distribute all available amps to the battery that needs it. On some two bank chargers, 4/4 means at most a battery can get 4 amps. With this model if the starting battery isn't significantly depleted it may take only 2 amps and send it's 2"extra" amps to the stereo battery, for a total of 6 amps on the battery that needs it.

It even came with a free multimeter to sweeten the deal. :cool:

Edit: I ended up returning this. I didn't want to mess with getting it to work with my VSR setup.

Replaced all 6 cabin speakers with Polk DB651s. I cut the wiring from the factory kickers and soldered them to the new Polks.

In each of the rear v-drive lockers I used one medium and one small side-by-side. I am really happy with this setup and use those nets all the time.

Here is a shot showing the older round 750s (50"x20"). You can't store anything too big there with them full, but it works great for ropes and handles.

Found one of these on eBay with 1 1/4" diameter. Did you grind off more than 1/4"?Assuming you mean the ski locker plug... Mine measures just over 1 1/4". Slimming them down was easy. I just slid the rubber piece over the end of my drill and spun it on a drywall rasp. The rubber is soft so it shapes easily.

Just some peel and stick traction tape cut to fit. Gives traction when grabbing boards out of the racks and protects the boat from the tower arms when lowering the tower.

You want to order 3/4 threw hull fittings.

To get to the 3 rear ones when you open your rear V storage doors, theres a carpeted backing attached to the what would be the rear seat. Remove the 2 screws and that panel comes off and tou can reach the back fittings.

There is a large bolt that holds the the hull fitting onto the boat. My new ones didnt come with O rings. I got 4 O rings at the local Ace hardware. Make sure they are pretty thick as this is going to be touching the gell coat and you dont want your stainless on your gell coat.

The front one is a bit harder to get to, craw under the drivers dash and you will see the hose connection to the threw hull fitting.

I did all 4 of mine in about 45 minutes.

Yep, mmandley said it well. I'd add that the front one can be interesting to get to. I wrapped a pair of needlenose pliers in duct tape and had a helper use that to keep the fitting in place from outside the boat while I tightened the nut on the inside.

Also I didn't add an o-ring to mine. I view them as permanent fixtures so am not concerned with the gel underneath.

Here's a sneak peak at my ballast project. This setup x2 will give me a dedicated pump for each fat sac. Using 1" fill lines all around with one-way valves for the rear sacs and 1" vented loops for the front sacs. The factory 3/4" fill hoses will be cut and used for venting each bag.

Not sure if this is directed to me, i dont recall the exact size. I went to ACE Hardware with the fitting in my hand and test fit them till it fit. I know its a fat black O Ring so it can be squished a bit and still not allow the O Ring to touch. I actually have another threw Hull fitting and i will stop in Monday to get the O Ring and get back with ya.

I added vents to each bag and tied them into the drain lines. You can see the check valve and wye fitting in this pic. This is hidden by the carpeted panels in the lockers and out of sight up above the drivers footwell. I reused the factory 3/4" fill lines so it was fairly inexpensive.

Yep, the thru hulls are in the bilge area and are for the pumps I'm adding. I started fresh with 1" thru hulls rather than reusing the factory grated intake since that was only 3/4". You can see the layout of the pumps in one of the pics above. 2 tsunami 1200 pumps on each 1" thru hull.

Yep, they are 3/4" and are the same length as the stock black ones. They are high quality pieces, I don't think you'll be dissappointed!

I went with a Clarion EQS746 to allow additional stereo control from the drivers seat. Most important to me was controlling the tower speaker volume independent of the cabin speakers. But the sub control and aux input sure are nice too. I had to get a blank panel which was no small task to track down, but in the end it made for a clean install.

There is a panel up under the helm that has all of the breakers. I know on some models they have the breakers right by the switches, but mine was never that way... just a row of switches before.

Well it took a lot longer to get to this point than I had planned. After cutting the 1" NPS threaded thru hulls to length, installing, and letting the adhesive cure, I found that the ball valve would not thread on to them correctly. What I thought I bought from wakemakers was a ball valve with NPS on the intake side and NPT on the output. But in reality they were NPT on both sides and the NPS/NPT valves were no longer available.

Wakemakers was great though and located some thru hulls with combination threads... NPS threaded with NPT on the end. They sent the new thru hulls free of charge, I just had to remove the old ones and do the process over again.

Visually nothing has changed from the pics I posted earlier. And here is a pic of one of the thru hulls with ball valve and tee installed. Next up is getting the pumps mounted once the adhesive sets up.

Here are all 4 ballast fill pumps installed and wired up. Tsunami 1200s with 1" lines. I reused sprinkler valve wiring plus the fill pump wires so I didn't have to run any new wires back from the switches.

One mistake I made was using spa hose. It is very rigid and difficult to work with. I had to use the heat gun or boiling water to make every connection, and poly pipe cutters to cut it. But then the check valves I used to keep the rear bags from filling, and the vented loops I used for the ski locker and integrated bow sacs were too loose, and couldn't be clamped tight enough to keep them from leaking. So boiling water saved the day with some barb fittings that I was able to heat and stretch over the ends, with a little silicone just in case. Moral of the story, spa hose is not ballast hose.

Update: I finally replaced all the spa hose with actual ballast hose. The internal diameter was slightly smaller so the vented loops and check valves fit much better. I was able to remove all the extra adapters I had added to accommodate the spa hose. I used the factory style crimp connectors for a cleaner look. Wish I would have just done this from the beginning!

Added 90 degree barb fittings to both sides of the strainer, 2 cuts of the intake hose, and a couple extra hose clamps. Done.

Here are a few pics of the integrated bow sac. This thing fits like a glove and will add a few hundred much needed pounds up front. One of the T1200's fills it from the top of one of the legs. 2 T800s to drain it, one at the bottom of each leg. I added a new thru hull to each side. The center/top port I used to vent and tied into one of the drain lines (not pictured.)

I also added a switch which just required modifying the factory panel and enlarging the fiberglass cutout behind it a bit. I'm still waiting on the switch face to match the other 3 and it will all be looking factory.

One other thing worth mentioning... The drain holes on the bottom of my cupholders were sharp! I cut them off and ground it smooth.

Looks really sweet Brain. Did you make a whole new ballast switch panel? If so where did you get that panel blank?

Are you not running a vent out of the center top plug on that nose bag?

Thanks! I reused the factory switch panel. I cut the 4th switch hole right overtop of the breaker hole. Then shifted the breaker hole farther to the right. I had to enlarge the fiberglass cutout behind the panel in order to make it all fit, but the panel still covers it all up nicely. I used some Krylon Fusion paint to make the panel all black since the factory graphic was now largely covered up.

I do have the vent line on the top port of the bow sac, just not in the picture.

Looks good Bro! I was wondering myself where you got the 4 outlet switch. Way go. I ended up tieing my front empty pump into my existing floor empty switch. I rarely use one without the other anyway.They take the same amount of time to empty so it wasn't a big deal.

Thanks to moombadaze's generous offer to swap props, I now have an OJ 14.25x14 vc wakeboard prop. There is a huge improvement in hole shot and holding speed with the ballast full. It was a much needed upgrade after adding the additional ballast. With all the ballast full the stock prop struggled to even plane out, and now it seems effortless.

The trade-off is that top speed is now 36 @ 5k RPM. It's also a noisy prop that sings and growls at various RPMs/speeds. This prop won't be for everyone, but if you run heavy and don't mind the top speed loss and noise, it's a huge improvement in hole shot. Thanks again, moombadaze!

FWIW, I have the same prop (14.25 x 14) from Acme and I don't get a growl from it. Top end is the same neighborhood though, about 36-38 @5k.

We had the same experience in our old Outback; 13x12 OJ had a growl on takeoff but the same prop from Acme didn't. The Acme props are thinner and probably not as tough as the OJ, so that may be the trade off.

Got the chance to put 15 hours on the boat over memorial weekend so I thought I'd update this thread with some additional info on a couple of these mods.

First off, the T1200s are FAST! System fill time (~2300 lbs) is right at 5 minutes. The bow and ski locker bags are full after 3 minutes and 2 minutes later the 750s in back are full. I'll be very happy with the fill setup once I figure out my leaking loop issue.

And what a difference a prop makes! It may be noisy but I love it already. 0-22 is effortless even when the boat is slammed. Just for kicks we piled 16 adults on the boat to see what kind of surf wave we could manage... oh and filled the 750 in back too. At rest the rub rail at the rear corner was even with the waterline. As you would expect, the wave was unreal. We don't surf much but I can see why people go so crazy with the ballast setups for surfing. Anyway, the boat had no problem at all with that weight thanks to the prop.

Finally, I can't say enough about how much the integrated bow sac adds. It really improves both wakeboarding and surf wakes. I've used it several times when I've got people sitting in the cabin area but none or kids only in the bow. Very worthwhile addition IMO, even if you manually fill/drain it.

Cliffs: Z5 is still my favorite addition to the boat, but the prop and bow sac are right up there.

Well, I ordered through AWS, using the part number that you gave. They were the only ones (of the 3 I called) to follow up with a sale.

The dealer that I purchased the boat from said "those chrome decals are expensive. The insurance people can't understand why. You don't want them, they cost too much." I almost thanked him for telling me what I wanted and what was too expensive for me. It is so much nicer to be told something than to think for my own self.

The second dealer said "I don't even know about chrome decals, none of our 2010 boats have them. I guess I can call Skiers Choice next week, if they are open. It may be a while due to the holiday". Really, you are going to DO something that MAY make a profit for your company. What a novel idea!

These are the experiences that make me wonder how companies stay in business in the good times, let alone now.

Yeah, I'm just slow. I've been working on all the little things first: tower feet pads, replacing the spa hose, etc. and saving the fun projects for last. Hoping to have the amp rack done tonight so I'll get some pics up of that.

4 screws and the factory amp board comes right out. I sacrificed a cutting board to make mounting strips, then screwed the amps down. The Class D amps keep the heat down and have a much smaller footprint so I could mount all 3 in the factory location behind the batteries.

That PDX line are nice little amps. Was considering those but ultimately went with the JL Audio MHD line of Class D amps. Small package - Big CLEAN Power.

Well now that I've got 3 amps it made sense to upgrade the rest of the system. :) First up, 2 sets of Exile SXT65s. I went with the fixed mounts and pushed them out to the edges of the tower to make it easier to get at the center spot on the Z5. Since I'll never remove the speakers I removed the handles from the neoprene covers.

The Exile sub enclosure got busted up in shipping, but I was able to use some epoxy and fix it up. At some point I expect to have to fiberglass the whole thing to really fix it properly, but it will work fine for this season. Exile XI12D sub. The sound is great, very flat/linear. I'm used to small sealed enclosures so the sound is much different but I like it. Overall a huge upgrade over the 10" sub I ran last year.

Edit: these didn't hold up well at all. I redrilled/tapped to use a larger bolt but it was back to rattling after a single set. Maybe if the bolt was up higher on the bracket. Guess it's back to the shims.

Adapter plate courtesy of Pete at Smooth Water Sports. It took awhile but is a quality piece and priced right. Although many people just leave it primer gray, they recommend painting it to match the trailer. I painted it to match the jack instead because it was a much easier match and just as stealthy.

I went with the dual wheel Fulton F2 jack to make moving the trailer around by hand in my garage easier. It works MUCH better than the stocker in pretty much every way (also a Fulton, just much more basic.)

I just installed one on my travel cover back in the cockpit area, I think it is better than just a stick holding up the
cover since it vents and supports . I do like that it holds onto the support pole better than just in a "sock" that was sewn into the cover. I don't think I will tow with the pole in place just let it flap .

Thanks! The EQ install took some time because I had to buy a blank switch plate (just finding the manufacturer and convincing them to sell me a blank version took some time.) Then recutting all the switch holes and spot for EQ with a dremel.

Thanks, wish I would have done this a long time ago. I went with the gallon kit of Herculiner and rolled it myself. Prep took some time to get the carpet glue off, but it applied very easily and dried in 12 hours. 1 gallon is enough for 2 boats and is only $75.

Only drawback I can think of with hydroturf is working around the engine bay dividing walls and screws in the floor. Your boat may be different but my carpet went under the walls and there were a lot of screws holding down hoses/wires, hinges, etc.

Whatever route you go I don't think you'll miss the carpet AT ALL. I had a ballast drain acting up yesterday and it was nice just pulling the drain fitting off and letting the bilge take over without having to deal with soaking wet carpet.

I have to take my platform off for the boat to fit in the garage so I added the quick release platform option. Additionally, I added the quick release clamps so that I can also remove the FAE completely for garage storage. Once I get my FAE and get it installed, I will post some pics. Hoping to get that done the week after July 4th.

I've been able to get some time with the FAE and it's definitely a huge improvement. Zero changes to the wake and I'm happy about the reduced fumes, and just wish I had a way to measure the improvement.

The new y-pipe design is awesome and looks OEM, which it probably should be as an option. Overall it's just a high quality upgrade. I'm glad to see so many people get in the group buy and am guessing there will be a lot of happy customers on here.

I notice a major decrease in sound at start-up and idle, to the point where I can't always tell if it's running or not. Surf speeds are much quieter too and hearing the water on the sides of the hull is just as cool as people have described. Wakeboard speeds are definitely quieter than before but it's not like you're in an electric boat, and when you hammer the throttle there is still plenty of engine roar like you would expect.

It will make winterizing super easy this year too. I'll just put a pail full of antifreeze under the FAE and run a hose from the bucket to the vdrive fake-a-lake and let it run.

I've been able to get some time with the FAE and it's definitely a huge improvement. Zero changes to the wake and I'm happy about the reduced fumes, and just wish I had a way to measure the improvement.

The new y-pipe design is awesome and looks OEM, which it probably should be as an option. Overall it's just a high quality upgrade. I'm glad to see so many people get in the group buy and am guessing there will be a lot of happy customers on here.

I notice a major decrease in sound at start-up and idle, to the point where I can't always tell if it's running or not. Surf speeds are much quieter too and hearing the water on the sides of the hull is just as cool as people have described. Wakeboard speeds are definitely quieter than before but it's not like you're in an electric boat, and when you hammer the throttle there is still plenty of engine roar like you would expect.

My wife said today when we were on the way to the dealer "I know you'll say I told you so, but I want our next boat to have a FAE". Then she started talking about saving money now for all of the adds we'll want to make right from the start (FAE, Exile, Ballast, and Samson mirror)... And we aren't upgrading until the 2017 model year ;-)

Yes, that is how I do it every year now, just without the FAE to collect the antifreeze. A hose directly connected forces water through the system (at least with my water pressure and connected to the vdrive) and so the boat doesn't ever get up to temp. Using a bucket with a hose to fill you'll see the system not pull any water for awhile, then pull water in like crazy.

Thanks! The EQ install took some time because I had to buy a blank switch plate (just finding the manufacturer and convincing them to sell me a blank version took some time.) Then recutting all the switch holes and spot for EQ with a dremel.

How much was the blank switch plate? Do you think they'd sell another?

I had to buy 5 plates from them to make it worth their while. Since it's a large manufacturing shop that doesn't sell direct to consumers it took some convincing for them to adjust their line to not cut the holes and then only do a run of 5. I had to create a purchase order and jump through a few other hoops as well. I think in total it was around $300 but not sure. I would recommend just using fiberglass to cover all the existing holes and then wrap both this panel and the ignition panel in the same vinyl to either match stock or go carbon fiber.

What kind of check valves are you using on the fill lines? I read through all 19 pages and never saw. Looks like Cab did a similar ballast mod and used metal swing check valves. I was looking at keeping the aerator system but getting rid of the sprinkler valves and using the composite check valves from wakemakers (https://www.wakemakers.com/marine-check-valve.html).

I used whatever wakemakers offered at the time. They've gone through a few different versions trying to find the best so I'd trust the ones you linked. You will need to keep the lines high to keep them from passively filling. Good luck!

Yeah I was planning to mount them as high as possible to reduce the positive pressure they would see. While sitting still and at cruising speed they shouldn't see any positive water pressure so long as they are above the water line (although the scupper thru hull may force water in and force me to put in a 1" thru hull). On your check valve system, did you have a scupper thru hull fitting and it worked or did you replace the original fitting with a mushroom?

Also, did the vented loops for your front sacks work? I know in Cab's write up, he ended up going with an irritrol 700.

That is exactly where I put the loop for the ski locker bag. The vented loop for the bow sac was under the helm.

The check valves we currently offer are the same ones we've had for a few years now. They are our own design and material selection to have the correct properties and work very well. Best of all, they are installation attitude agnostic, meaning you can install them where ever you want, unlike a brass swing type check valve which has to be held in a specific orientation.

You MUST either cut off the scupper or switch it out for a mushroom style fitting. If you don't do that, using an electronic valve (like the Irritrol series) is the only solution to prevent passive filling when the boat is moving through the water.

I was planning on eventually doing it but guess no time like the present... I did read through Cab's write up and i quote "beat the crap out of the old". I'd rather not break anything, so tips for an approach with more finesse would be appreciated. Sounds like possibly heat the sealant and a bar to work the valve back and forth to break one side free first.

Also, I was thinking about it and really I should be able to use check valves for the front too as long as they are mounted high up (i would likely mount them all behind the rear bench). Hydraulically I don't see why they would differ from the rear bags.

And yes, boat mods are keeping my mind busy over winter, but are also worrying my fiancee that I'm gonna sink a bunch of money on something that already works. I try to convince her that I need a bigger wake and fill it faster, but she doesn't understand yet...

I don't remember removing the old through hull being that challenging. I think heating the sealant is a good idea. Scoring the adhesive might help too if it's surrounding the fitting. Otherwise back and forth with a few good smacks should do the trick. Good idea starting with check valves since vented loops can be temperamental. For what it's worth I'd go with reversible pumps if I had it to do over again, so I wouldn't advise putting too much money into the aerators.

The cost isn't that different once you add up all the extra pumps and parts needed for an aerator system. Aerators are fast though and once I worked all the kinks out of my system I was pretty happy with it.

See I priced it all out for what i need for a 4 bag/4 pump aerator system, and including the cost of the IBS bag i get around $900. I agree the reversibles are cleaner and less finicky of a setup, but to get the same setup with reversibles including the IBS bag would be around $1600. That cost savings gets me the doomswell surf board that I want!

The qustion I have for you is once you got the aerator system through the trial and error/tinkering setup and have it dialed in, has it been pretty reliable since?

The aerators wouldn't always get the bags drained flat and I still had occasional priming issues. It filled lightning fast but drained painfully slow. After having reversibles now I won't go back.

What about 3 reversibles with the center and IBS piggybacked?

I may get an IBS and just manual fill it for now. I just got a 400 lb eight.3 with WM elevate portable pump so i can play around with weight this spring, but it sounds like an IBS is a must. I saw a photo where you overlaid a fly high and Sumo IBS, i'm assuming you tried them both in the 08 LSV. Which one seemed to maximized the weight? It looks like the fly high isn't wide enough in the legs to fill all of the rear part of the bow.
