Losing Power when accelerated over 20-25 mph

I have a 2001 Moomba Outback LS with 310 hp indmar. I put the boat in for the first time sense winter. I didn't have any problems starting the engine but after 20 minutes, the boat would not accelerate without losing engine power. I opened the hood of the motor and noticed the fuel pump was making a louder than normal pinging sound. Also, I noticed the fuel gauge was stuck on Empty. I don't think the fuel guage would have anything to do with the power lose problem.

I changed the oil before I put the boat in the water for the season. But now my next step is to change the fuel filter and maybe drain the gas (gas is new for the season).

Any suggestions are highly needed. Thanks Wesley

I had a similar problem ( losing power under load but did not have a fuel guage on empty) and my fuel pump was making a whinnny sound....turned out to be a clogged fuel filter.
