So we took the boat out of storage for detail and other things to get it ready for the summer. After the swim platform had gotten wet I had walked on it then on to the sundeck. There were black marks from where my feet were. Is there something I can rub on the mat? My dad does not want to buy a whole new mat, but he does not want this to keep happening when people get in an out. I know that this has probably already been discussed; this just seems like the fastest way for advice. Thanks for all the help so far on all my other questions.

Mine did that also. Is the boat or deck New? What I did was keep a rag in the boat just for the swim deck. Everytime I went to the Lake and the boat in the water, I washed and wiped the deck down. This eliminated the black marks on the vinyal. I hope this helps.

I realize the best solution is to replace the mat with Seadec as everyone seems to say but before this solution came about someone suggested coating with clear Laquer coating which i did with my 07 Outback and 2 seasons later so far so good. Yes its a tad slippery when wet but this was one of the solutions at the time.
I probably will switch covers soon enough and put a Fancy Roo cover on but untill then . this works.

The black mat just does that. You can't stop it, execpt for Mikeys suggeston. I just put on the Seadek pad, way better and only a couple hugie. Worth the price, just ask anyone.

TAZZ: Both the boat and the deck were new when we bought it and we have only used it for one season.

I guess seadeck is the way to go. I guess that is a purchase for some other time. Anymore suggestions would rock..

Forgive my ignorance to the Fancy Roo and the Sea Dek options. My '05 LSV has the smooth black rubber pads that trasfer sooo much black to the inside of the boat. I figured it was a product of the previous owner's Armorall or something. So others have had alternative materials applied with good results? Was this a DIY or a shop install?

Interesting, was yours a pre season order or off the floor later in the season. I'm just asking as maybe thgey changed out the mats to the new style mid season. But everyone I know who has 07 or older Moombas has a similar problem. You come out of the water onto the swim platform. Stand up on it, walk over the sun deck and back seat and you leave blackish footprints

I am guessing it is a factory thing. No one owned the boat before us and it was not a DIY. If the 08's are not doing it they must have changed something. So armor all would be a bad thing to put on it? My dad like the roo swim deck, but to him the black is just something we are just going to have to deal with, till next season. I am afraid of it staining the vinyl. I think we are just going to get a separate rag to wipe on the deck before we put the boat in the water everytime we use it till next year.

Yah we bought it in mid july, just sitting there in the parking lot. Brand new. Only stains i get are from people jumping in my boat before taking their shoes off.

I must be lucky - my -08 hasn't started yet, but we keep it in the water 6 months of the year - maybe the fact that its wet more often helps?

I have also not had this issue. Last year i did keep it in the water all summer. Could be the water washing down the swim deck all night long. Or that the heat could not build up on the swim deck since water is always hitting it.

I know the few times my boat was in the driveway and not on the lift and I gave it a good pressure washing you could see the black running off the swim deck. I think Eds find is just about on the money. At first I thought it was just dirt, but I think that exhaust thing is a very good answer.

That being said, it is possible that different fuels from differnent parts of the county could have different addidives (for cleaning and such) that react differently. This would explain why some people have experienced this phenomonem (spleeling?) and why some haven't

my 07 OBV has not had the problem, I know the 08 went to a new design like gator grip and slighly softer. I have only used it the 08 season though. season two might be the trick. i hope it holds up cus saving up for a wake surfer:D

But I wonder if boats left outside have it worse also. My 03 boat did not have this problem. It has been garage kept its whole life.

We have only had it for one season so far. So if it was outside it must have been the dealer, but we unwrapped it. The dealer had an over stock of 07's in 08'. It could be the water thing. The lake we go to is pretty dirty. I know seadeck is nice but any opinions on traxx or gator grip? Other than those alternatives. I guess we gotta deal till next year unless there is some none permanent thing to rub on it everytime we go out.

We've had the problem since year one. We did not surf until year 2 and only skied year one. This is funny though. It's not like it does permanent damage, it's just a pain in the a@# and looks bad:(

Like others have said there isn't really a common denominator other than pre 08. My boat is stored outside yr round and shortly after we got it it would bleed black marks almost as soon as it got wet and feet would leave tracks. We ski so our platform is mostly above water and it happened in a couple lakes.
As i said someone suggested clear laquer so i took my platform off, taped off everthing i didn't want sprayed took lots of care to do a couple nice coats and so far 2 seasons later so far so good. I would like to change sometime soon but untill then this has worked for me.

We just bought a used 05 Outback LS (yep its blue) and you could not get near the deck w/o black going everywhere. I scubbed the bejesus out of it with comet and a stiff brush. It did not discolor the mat and after three more weekends of use, still no black residue. I assume it will come back eventually as i probably just wetsanded the damaged surface off.

Thanks alot Mikey and anyone else who suggested to spray clear lacquer on it. I went and bought the clear satin spray lacquer. It rocks. The swim deck is a little bit more slippery, but not noticeable by other people. Hopefully it ties us over till next summer and we can upgrade to seadeck. Thanks for all the help everyone. 05BlueLS you should try this for sure.:D

Well I must have jinxed myself by saying mine didn't do it, as it started today. Oh well, gives me an excuse to order a Seadeck upgrade :)
