View Full Version : Surfing behind LSV.. Try this ballast setup

04-17-2009, 11:20 PM
So tonight, I had a friend riding with me who wanted more ballast for wakeboarding.. he brought 2 300# bags for the front. We put them on the front seats... Otherwise had center locker full and 400's in rear full..
So it got time to surf and I did not want to fool with draining the front manual bags..
SO we surfed with 600 in the bow, center locker full and 400 in left rear..
driver and 2 adults and 1 child on surf side..

GREAT LONG WAVE.. Would have run the wake plate a bit higher.. i told him to raise it and he lowered it.. VERY long wave.. and fun! A little more curl would have helped.. but here is a phone snapshot.. get out and ride~!

Great looking wake for not that much weight in the boat! Weight up front like that makes for a nice long pocket.

Thanks for sharing!

Makes me think about the integrated bow sac deal on wakemakers for sure!
I was plannin on plumbing in sac on the left side for surfing, but after this, I am sold on one setup up front! Boat rode flatter too. ...

Brad very cool. Is that on a river?

04-20-2009, 11:50 AM
actually, that is the Ross Barnett reservoir. It is fed by Pearl River, but that pic is near the Spillway and 10'+ depth ESE winds 10-15 when we put in but that side was protected...and the winds died as the sun set!

You'll have to see the surf wake Moombadaze is making now. It was absolutely incredible. It was up to my hip pocket and nice and long and had that beautiful curl. Wow!

Daze has on 08 LSV right?

yes its a 08 LSV. You should ask Ed about the shower i gave him when i was loaded down with 1950lbs of surf ballast.

04-21-2009, 12:20 PM

Setup is 750lb in passenger side rear locker, 400lb bag under passenger seat filled about80-90%full--underseat cooler is removed, 400lb bag in the ski locker, 400lb bag ontop of ski locker in the walk thru, trim tab 3/4 bow up and right about 10.5mph -think there is a little more still there-experamenting still

04-21-2009, 01:02 PM

thats a set up- I have been running 750 rear -tube sack in the ski locker- and 400 in the surf side bow seat and i thought that was pretty good so i can't imagine yours....

how exactly do you hook up the 400 bag under the seats? it sounds like a lot of people have this set up and id like to do it but I can't find specifics on how to run pumps and everything....

Aj, Luckily my whole family surfs the same side so i just took the port/goofy side factory bag and installed it under the passenger seat after removeing the cooler (as far as i know I'm the only one to cut the cooler out)and then just rerouted the fill hose and empty pump and hose . I really hate haveing bags sitting out and I dont allways use the xtra 400 in the walk way but it does change the wave length.

04-21-2009, 01:51 PM
The wave is just about as good without it. It really just gets a little longer. We only had 2 people in the boat with 2 kids and 2 dogs, if I remember. With 5-6 adults you wouldn't even bother with it.

I see...I would have to come up with a different way beacuse i wakeboard as well and still need to use my starboard sacs. but i love the idea of cutting out that worthless cooler and putting a bag under there. thanks for the fast replys!

I surfed a nice LSV wake yesterday afternoon. We have a 550 lb sack full in the rear locker (port side), the stock 400 in the ski locker, about 200 lbs of lead in the bow, plus 4 120-140 lb girls all sitting on the port side. We went about 11.5 mph with the wakeplate at 3/4 of the way up. Very nice.

Surfed for the first time on the Ronix Koal 5'. VERY SWEET SURF!

@ daze

Daze, do you have any weight in the drivers side rear locker? Also, got any pics posted anywhere of this wave, I wanna see ;)

04-28-2009, 08:07 AM
Joran, the only weight in the drivers side rear is a tub full of ropes and life jackets take of the rest of the room-maybee 30-50lbs. I should be getting out this weekend to try a couple new boards out and will try to get photos of my wave.

Hey, what boards you tryin out?

Two hyperlite broadcast's--should be here today

What do you guys secure your extra ballast bags with when they are on a seat? Right now, I put 500# on the port side seats (along with my 750# in the back and 400# in ski locker), and to keep them from falling, I have to put the removable back seat parallel with the side seat... I don't really like doing this since there's less floor room, and the engine noise is louder when that seat is removed. Do y'all just use bungee straps, or what?

I want to try the suggestion of moving some weight to the bow, but not sure how I would keep it from rolling around.

04-29-2009, 05:52 PM
Daze, are those demos they sent or did you buy them?

04-29-2009, 08:54 PM
Sled, I bought them both. For 418. shipped ( Ebay--Thanks Pat for the link) I figured I just could not go wrong-I did Look at some other boards and they want 600-800 for one board-that is just not in my budget. I put 2 photos on the other thread I started.

04-29-2009, 11:25 PM
Way cool, that's the way to do it. I got a Inland surfer Red Tide last fall for a good deal like that, I want to say around 200 shipped.

04-30-2009, 12:24 PM
I knew Stacy was diggin' the Broadcast but didn't know it was enough to go get TWO of them! Did you get both sizes? If so, great, cuz I'd like to try the shorter one just to see the difference.

04-30-2009, 03:17 PM
yep-got both sizes, look on the thread were i was asking about them and you gave me all those links-thanks as that saved me some coin.

04-30-2009, 05:01 PM
Yup, found that about 2 min. later. Congrats!

Most of you already know but for those who don't. I run the Enzo sacs in lockers of my LSV. They are rated at 1450 lbs each but I can't quite fill the legs all the way. I'm guessing I get every bit of 1100lbs in each locker. Then run factory floor sack with a 550 in the walkway. The wave is very nice. This year I'm playing around with a home made intigrated bow sack until I can get real one.
Dang, if I hadn't bought those wheels...
Either way the enzo sacks work really well in the LSV. The only issue is the seat bases arn't as wide as the Centurion so the legs don't fill all the way, But for a plug and play operation it works awesome. Unforntunately my friends and family are equally devided between goofy and regular, so I needed to have sacks on both sides.
I called Flyhi directly and bought factory seconds for just under 500 for the pair.
I'll bet Wakemakers could take care of you if you looked into it.

Here is some pics of the goofy wake on our site. Sorry no regular pics.

Here's a few more pics. Depending on people that wave can get massive. I would easily put it up against the big three... wait we are one of the big three now.:D

05-01-2009, 10:14 AM
Wait I found a regular wake set-up in a video even.
Here is my brother-in-law 6'1" 215lbs on our React Classic with my daughter. It was Labor day weekend and all the yachts were coming back from thier party lagoon. Hence the rollers. Regardless you get the idea. Also I had only the floor bag full. No extra weight up front and the enzo sack full.

Newty-good vid, and nice wave. What prop are you running?

05-01-2009, 12:38 PM
fidunno The upgraded wakeboarding prop. What ever the SC upgrade is.

05-04-2009, 07:07 PM
Hey how fast you going there? Looks like a great ride!

05-05-2009, 01:28 PM
Great pics and awesome info! I figured someone out there was running Enzo sacs, but I hadn't heard first hand how they fit.

05-05-2009, 09:22 PM
Sled, we're running about 10.5-10.9. With that bigger Classic board we can run a bit faster.

05-06-2009, 04:53 PM
Great pics and Vid Newt, i was wondering the link you provided a few posts back to the board is that your brothers boards you told me about? Is that his site? They look pretty sweet, little more then i want to pay for a starter board but definitely a board id get when i get more into it.
