OK, mark your calendars. I consulted several likely attendees and then picked the date that works best for me. Everyone is welcome to attend and I'll post the camping links again when we get a little closer. I plan on camping and being out there all three days but we'll hold the "official" event on Saturday. For those of you who don't know where this is it's just N. of the GA line in Bainbridge, GA. We'll launch at the Earl May Boat Basin.

Anybody remember these?

I think KOA is a great idea but I may want to camp up the river one night. No reason not to reserve KOA though b/c there's no shower up by the swing where we hung out last year.

I would love to do the upriver camping on the beach-that will be a blast.

Do you really think I'm the one that would complain about no bathroom or shower? I think I could live in the woods for months and never miss civilization. Of course my better half can only take about an hour and a half.

What is the "official" event? Sounds fun anyways!

Reserve'd my site for the 4th thru 7th. Guy at the campground said they do fill up pretty good for the holiday weekend.

That area with the sandbar in the 4th picture above was completely under water on Wed. I have never seen the river that high. There was a lot of debris in the water too but we were pretty careful.

Excellent idea. Lots of fun on this clean cool clear river. Shooting for 10 Moombas this year (and Mark's Supra).

Kaneboats,

I believe we are going to attend, you know I have to ask the Mrs. on all travel and money matters first. I guess I need to bring a couple of bigger anchors this time and I haven't yet got to the point where I will beach this boat on the shore yet. Something about "wet sanding" the paint!

We have booked a room at the "Hotel 8", right down from the campground and launch. I have spent enough time in tents in the desert, I don't plan on doing it much more. Plus, we will have our dog and she prefers A/C.

We will get there on Friday and leave Sunday afternoon.

Excellent! What is your dog's name (so I can tell the kids)? Also, I would love for you guys and Mrs Z to give pointers to my oldest who has taken up slalom skiing.

Monty, are you guys coming out?

We'll be there Sat. or Sunday, depends on our family at the lake house.

Maxpower,

Given the work I do in Decatur County, I would steer clear of the Motel 8. I would look at the Charter House or the Jamison Inn. My pick would be the Jamison.

Thanks, that is the kind of info that I needed. We only found a few Hotels listed for Bainbidge. I will give Jamerson a call.

The dog is Cinnamon.

I doubt that I could advise anyone on skiing, I suck.

We are going to stay at the Dixon Farm! There are plenty of grass strips within a mile or so and the Donalsonville airport is about 3 miles away if anyone is thinking about bringing any special planes with them! Just have to watch out for those crazy crop dusters :D

MrsZ says she will be more than happy to help the young lady in her efforts to perfect her slalom skills.

I heard back from Melissa at H2O Watersports today. Last year they showed up with 3 boats but, unfortunately, they will not be able to attend this year. Some of you will recall zegm's post about Melissa being named Mrs. Alabama. Well the Mrs. America pageant is Sept. 8 and they are headed out to Tuscon. Here's the link to the Alabama delegate's page. Contratulations Melissa and best of luck (but watch out for Mrs. FL -- she's awesome)!

Sounds like there is still nothing clearly defined about 94L and it may be far enough away that it is out of play for the w/e. We will continue to watch it to see if anything develops.

Depends on what time Stacy gets here. I'm camping up at the KOA on Fri. night so I will be up for a late day cruise if he's here in time.

Seems like it's been raining for the past 5 days. But they are now saying that starting tomorrow it's going to get a whole lot better and we're back to the normal 20-30% chance of an afternoon storm through the weekend. So, finally, it all looks good.

In the meantime the storm Ed warned us about, Invest 94L, is a little stagnant right now but was upgraded to a TS (Erika). It shouldn't reach the very SE of FL (if it makes its way here at all) till at least Mon. night. So that part looks good too.

I was in Bainbridge this morning working and the river is high and very dirty/ muddy.

Stacy, everybody. Be safe on the road (and the water). See you tomorrow or Sat. I'm taking a half day at work to get camp set up. I think Donna will come later when kids get out.

I have a new name for these mini jams. Eliza wants to go to the Moomba Daddies. :) Zachary wants to go to but he doesn't call it that.

We both have to work tomorrow. Don’t know if we will head up Sat morning or Fri night. But we will see you!

I don't think socialized medicine is going to compensate MD's like they were in the old days. I do like the idea of the kids sending me $$ though.

I might be in that WalMart tomorrow. Call me tomorrow night if you get a chance and I'll let you know what I find (happen to know that WalMart has Yeungling in cans).

That rope swing looks like it could have been the highlight of the weekend!

One of many highlights! Others included spending time with friends, surfing, skiing, great weather, a nighttime dip in the pool, smores and pina coladas. Ed, sorry you & T were not able to make it, hopefully next time.

MP220-I really enjoyed getting to know you & M. Let us know next time you make it down to our area. We also loved having Cinnamon around! Thanks for posting the pictures.

Kaneboat family-We love hanging out with you guys! I'd endure gnats again for you:)

ZEGM family-I was happy to get to spend more time with your family. Ginny, sorry you still didn't surf behind our boat. I guess we have to plan another outing!

MrsZ
09-07-2009, 08:07 PM
That WAS fun! Thanks to everyone. We all had a fantastic time.

Mrs Daze, we need to plan another outing somewhere in between....maybe with a 5k too?

kaneboats
09-08-2009, 10:24 AM
A 5k??? I was tired enough as it was. I kept falling asleep yesterday on the couch. We had a great time with all of you. Shout out to Maxpower for picking up 2 skis in Pensacola for me-- the guy I bought them from absolutely would not ship them. The smaller one was perfect for Katelyn. Thanks so much for that and for grabbing the sunscreen for us and for sharing gear with Katelyn. I think she found the kind of board she wants. Maxpower actually took this photo with my camera (Katelyn on his board-- she gets a lot more air than I do):
