Boat Dock Pipe Paint?

I’m finally getting around to building a new boat lift and decided not to have the pipes hot dipped galvanized for cost reasons. I need to paint the pipes and was wondering if I should use a special type of paint or just spray paint them. All help greatly appreciated.

I would use an oil based exterior primer and paint to protect the metal.
