The oilbath bearings on the Boatmate trailer are a great idea. What type of oil is in them and how often should it be changed?

My trailer is a 2003,and calls for 50 wt oil.I dont know the recomended change interval but I changed mine after 4 years(about 5000 miles)

Thank you for the reply James. An oil change is still much easier and cleaner than repacking bearings with grease.

I won't swear to it but I believe it was 2003.

James - My trailer is '03 as well and has oil. As it's 140 miles away from me at the moment, I can't picture the access. What was the procedure for changing the oil? Thanks.

Auto Parts store like Auto Zone/O'Reillys should have it. I can't remember what I bought.. I don't think it much matters for this app...

There is a small allen head plug in the hub.You pull the plug out and roll the hub so the hole is on the bottom, and the oil will drain.when it's done draining you roll the hub 180 degrees and fill the hub with oil.You will need a small funnel.I ordered a QT of 50 wt.Royal Purple from a friends Hot Rod shop.I used less than 1/2 of the Qt.I believe I pulled the wheels off, which made the job easier.
